Valle de Yabucoa

YABUCOA VALLEY (1938)

Evaristo Ribera Chevremont

Valley whose torrid climate, coarse and vital, shapes
your expanses and regenerations.
Valley whose climate offers your multitudinous forms;
forms of exuberances and inundations.

Radiation blue, fraught with severity,
of robust accentuation, it covers your expansions.
The peaks that you embrace, keeps watch over your beauty,
They raise your green on top of the green that you display.

In your breadth, with features hot, burning,
with determined lines, the royal palms shine;
and, in your silence, symphonies and noises prevail;
symphonies of insects and noises of canals.

I drown in your tropical air, dense,
in which the winged guajanas fly as one;
and I catch your unfathomable undiluted essence
in the enormous grandeur and fiery pupils.
