Luna de Marzo

MARCH MOON  (1938)

Evaristo Ribera Chevremont

     This moon of March, this dilated moon
in a cloudless sky, the palm tree is bowing,
with rough clusters, on the palisades.
The air, penetrated with perfumes, overwhelms.

     The orange tree in the yard offers
its distinguished cup of dark green hues;
its cup which, with lunar shower, glistens
on the insensible nakedness of the wall.

     The pine trees are in the sweet and wet garden,
the flexible branches and erect trunks;
and, as if the stars, blue, purple
and gold be praised, the screeching insects.

     Beyond the houses, the billowing herbs,
fresh, in the deep delight of the falling dew.
How things are formed from clarity.
It is a very kind act, the absence of people.
