Memorial Day

Its Memorial Day here in the states, and the fights all over facebook are over people saying it is not a day to recognize the living, but recognize the dead.

We watched the movie beautiful creatures this week, and they stated that death can mean many different things.

It is so true.

My Travis died in Iraq. My kids will never know him, and I will never see him again.

My Travis is dead.

I have a Travis…

Not all wounds are visible, not all deaths mean you are buried in the ground. A part of a person can die, while thier body lives on.

Its a rainy somber day today, it feels fitting in a way. A sunny day spent at the beach would just be too much.

Today, will go on much like any other day. Today, while meant to be special will not be any different.

I have taken a few quiet moments to be introspective and don’t ever think I am ungrateful. I know the price our country has paid, and I appreciate the freedoms we have been allotted. War is a nessescary evil, the price paid isn’t always in dead bodies, but in men’s minds as well.I sometimes wonder still if those who died are the lucky ones? They may have given their lives, but their minds have been set free. Those who live, live with it all their lives.

As you know the issues with Travis’ army service have come to the forefront of or lives lately. We have spent much time at the VA hospital, and it is apparent there more than anywhere, just how much our freedom costs.

We will endure, as a family we will endure, and as a country we shall as well.

ryn: ofcourse we would. However, the only way they’re likely to take them seriously and remove the door (i it was a child, they could have lost their whole hand!!), is by suing them. I hope you are well xxxx

IMO- Memorial day is a day to celebrate ALL who have served and are currently serving. The living may not have died at war or while on duty but many (like Travis) lost parts of their lives and themselves they may never get back. Look at the men who served in Vietnam. Many wont speak a word about their time spent there because it was that awful. Images they have to live with until they die. xox
