IEP meeting
I feel like throwing an tantrum…
Today was the iep meeting, want to know how well that went?
They said she is acessing her education just fine, she just needs to grow up.
They said she needs ot but since her autism isn’t sevre enough she can’t have it.
They said I do too much for her.
They said aba therapy was pointless, and that it would do more harm than good because it would only induldge her. (induldge her in what?)
They said her struggles are only at home, and therefore not their problem.
They said she doesn’t have a sensory disorder, just is poorly behaved, and inmature.
Here are my thoughts.
Kindergarten is NOT compulsurary, and therefore I can withdraw her if I like.
I have the right to home school her if I like.
I have the right to say they are not providing her with adequate education.
I can also send her half days every day if I like. If I have a doctors note then what?
We have fought so long for aba and evne though she is mild, and even though she may be intellegent, she still struggles socially, she still struggles at home, she still struggles to communicate. I can’t pass it up if she can get it. If we don’t time will pass the gap will grow, and then it will be too late.
I need to do some serious thinking about this.
My gut reaction is homeschooling is the way to go, and if I have my way we will never ever have another iep as long as I live.
I need to find a better alternative to this school, and the smug principle who thinks he knows everything.

They literally said that she “needs to grow up?” Geez.

We have several private schools in our area that are specially for kids that have certain problems that don’t mesh well in regular public schools. They have small classes, aides, etc. In other words, they are prepared. Is there anything like that in your area? It might cost a chunk, but it might be worth investigating… if not for this year, for her future.

Ryn. I wasn’t saying it was poor penmanship I was just saying that it sounds like they don’t care if she needs help when she obviously does. How old is she again?

Ugh, I am so sorry it turned out this way 🙁 Not acceptable AT ALL. I don’t know what the best option is. I don’t think I would send her anymore.

By the way I’m back 🙂 Are you preggers?? I see a ticker!! I had MULTIPLE IEP meetings last year at Cody’s elementary school. It was so exhausting. However I’m pleased that the staff was extremely helpful and sympathetic to our situation and helped him pass to the 6th grade. They did EVERYTHING possible besides just passing him. They allowed him to pass by modifying his work load and other stuff.
