big changes

I’m watching Army Wives on DVR!!! YAY!

It’s been a busy weekend. Nicholai has been having so much trouble sleeping… so we decided that maybe now that he is almost 8 months old it was time to start implementing some big boy changes. We have started him on 3 meals a day of baby food. Before that he was only getting 1 but maybe he isn’t getting enough food so we bumped it up to 3. And now that he is eating more baby food I want to start making my own so I have been doing some research and started making my own baby food. We also moved his bed time up from 10 to 9, which is still having trouble with but it’s only been 2 nights and he needs atleast a week to really get settled with something new.

But now I’m worried. We still swaddle him at 8 months, we tried a couple weeks ago to not swaddle him and he woke up screaming every hour on the hour so for his sake as well as ours we went back to swaddling. Last night he rolled over onto his stomach for the first time while in the crib and he was still swaddled. I’m not at all comfortable with him sleeping on his stomach while swaddled. But he doesn’t sleep if he isn’t so I’m not sure what to do. It’s obviously time to wean him off because it isn’t safe. So I started researching and there are many that did it cold turkey, but that obviously doens’t work for him so there are a couple other ways to try. First I can try to swaddle him with 1 arm out or I could try to but him in a sleep sack with his arms inside and then take 1 arm out and then the other…. I’m not sure which would work better but I think the sleep sack would be the slowest way. My poor sensitive boy, he just doesn’t do well with change, but I know this would be better in the long run, once he finally got used to it.

We also started Nicholai on Your Baby Can Read. He really liked watching it. I wonder if he will pick up on things they way I’ve seen other moms say their kids have. We were watching the testimonials on it and there was a 2.5 year old reading the word parallelagram! If Nicholai could read like that at 2.5…. that would be amazing. The dr started the program for his little girl, well she is now 16, and a sophomore in college! I know that Nicholai most likely won’t achieve that much success with it but even if he could be reading by 3-4… that would be amazing! So we will see how it goes.

Ok… back to Army Wives….

I’m with you on the swaddling! I swore by it when Ash was real little, but now I’m wondering if I need to do something else. But like you, my baby won’t sleep well without being swaddled either. Even with being swaddled her sleep is really broken all of a sudden. she is still in the basinet too. not sure what’s up, but tired of my eye twitching from lack of sleep!! ahh!!! :O)

Have you tried maybe just wrapping a blanket loosely around him? It might give the same effect that he is being swaddled but at the same time, if he rolls over or moves around it’ll be loose enough.
