you don’t have to read…. I just need to vent

Ok… I am at my wits end. Everything revolving Riku is driving me insane. I love my cat…. I really do but I don’t know what to do with him anymore. He is peeing everywhere! EVERYWHERE!!!! He pees on the rug, on the floor, in the food dishes, on anything plastic, on the stove, on the microwave, on the wall and most recently… on the bed! After that we decided that we just had to get rid of him. I didn’t want to but I’m not supposed to be dealing with pee as it is being pregnant so him peeing all over the house and dragging his ass all over the carpet like a dog was just getting out of hand. It is to the point that all I do is clean and clean and clean and spray and spray and spray and nothing is stopping it. He has been to the vet, the took urine right from his bladder, they have no explanation for why he is doing what he is doing and told me that it was behavioral.

We thought that we should just surrender him to a no kill shelter. So we found one and I call and call and call and call. No answer. It was either busy or just rang and rang. I went there today and guess what… they only function by appointment. First off… how the hell am I supposed to make a damn appointment if no one picks up the phone?! And when is their next open appointment? Yeah… August. So I find another no-kill shelter that is about 30min away. I call about 5 times before someone answers and they tell me that they can’t take him… he is too old. So we have to keep him til July when Allison and Eric come down to visit. Ok, but what the hell are we supposed to do with him now? Right now he is locked up in the bathroom, but he is still peeing and I won’t have our new place that we are moving too tomorrow smell like pee! So now we have to buy a cat playpen at $170. I am so stressed about this. I’m glad that we don’t have to get rid of him because I love him, but I am at my wits end about what to do with him. I am out of options. I’m pissed with these shelters who dont’ know how to answer the phone and are totally not organized.

I’m so sick of our place smelling like urine. I won’t let the new place smell like that… not with a baby on the way. I don’t want to stick him in a regular shelter because I dont’ see him getting adopted right away and I don’t want him to be put down.

And I know that tomorrow is going to be really stressful because of the move. There is so much to do and money is tight right now because there was so much that we had to do with this move and I lost my job 2 months early. UGH!

I just need a break from everything and there is no break in sight because after this move….. then I get my root canal on Monday. I’m trying to take it easy for little nudger’s sake because I can tell that the baby realizes that I’m stressed and moves around so much more.

I need some real meditation right now…. but there just isn’t the time, not yet.

ARGH why is everything so complicated!

i had a cat with the same problem- i bought a few books actually, and ended up trying to get on my cat’s wavelength. cats are sensitive to stuff we can’t see/smell/hear, so sometimes even other cats outside can be bothering or intimidating your cat. chances are, your cat is going a bit bonkers too, b/c they pee around their perimeter, and basically, if the cat is peeing everywhere, it’s smelling its perimeter everywhere, which kinda means “danger zone.” Anyway, spending a lot of time at barnes and noble really helped out me and my cat. good luck, either way.

We got our cat from a shelter and they said she was fine with dogs. Well, that was a lie. She spends most of her day under my bed and if she tries to get to the litter box and 1 of the dogs is there, she just goes and pees under my bed. We JUST bought this house and it smells like cat piss. Have you tried posting an add on craigslist?

a long time ago when i live at home. we had a cat, that belonged to my moms boyfriend. she wasn’t happy when he brought her to our house when he moved in b/c there were other female cats. she started pissing everywhere. her and one of the other females were pissing it out against each other so we had to get rid of them both. the final straw was her pissing her my mom’s boyfriend’s head, and she was his cat. Cat’s tend to do things like that when they are not happy. maybe he knows you are having a baby and isn’t happy about it. i like the first noter’s response. trying to figure out what is upsetting him might help. or getting him neutered if he isn’t already. also Vinegar will get rid of the smell of cat pee. and equal parts vinegar and ammonia will get rid of cat spray which is more concentrated. when its safe for you to handle it of course. a friend of mine had a problem with her cats pissing in her pantry on the floor. it was carpeted so she just sprayed it down with vinegar really good and they stopped going in there.

is he fixed? if not that should help- but I’ve heard that even fixed male cats will still spray sometimes. I got 3 female cats specifically to avoid that. hopefully he doesn’t do it to your new place too!!

*hugs* take a deep breath. my cat has started throwing up everywhere recently, so i know how icky it can be. puke doesn’t smell nearly as bad, though. maybe he’s a little stressed from the baby and the move too. 🙂

if it is behavioral you can read up on cat behavior problems and try to get to the cause of it. if you have a good vet or a cat-specific vet often they will work with you to help you solve behavioral problems or at least recommend some books or websites to read up on about the problems. good luck… and don’t give up on him!
