Soon I Will Wake From This Dream

As soon as slumber clouds my mind it takes me

a dream so blissful and sweet that I never want to leave

through the darkness your face appears

your hand finds mine as your lips press against my own

a long awaited embrace of perfect love beyond compare

you fill my body with life that I didn’t even realize I had lost

the stars spin around us as they only do in dreams

the world falls away save for you and for me

you pull away and hold my face in your hands

as you stare deep into my eyes you promise to never let me go

you say this moment will last forever

and you pull me close, close enough to hear every perfect beat of your heart

I feel tears fall onto my face, they blend with the tears of my own

and just as I begin to think the moment will never fade

my eyes open and I find myself in my room alone

no trace of you except the feeling of your lips on mine

your hand in mine and your heartbeat as the sound slowly echos into the background and is gone

these dreams are all I have of what used to be

and sometimes I wish that I never had to awaken
