Not a Day Goes By

Another month down in this long time apart

it is still just as hard as it was in the start

the days move slowly on and the nights are still hard

I sit by the phone and wait, always on guard

hoping for just five minutes to hear your voice

but never once ever regretting my choice

to stand by your side while you are away

fighting for and defending our country each and every day

still, it doesn’t change how much I miss you

but don’t worry my love because I will never be untrue

not one single day goes by that you aren’t on my mind

even across the world our hearts are entwined

though the tears do fall down my checks

and sometimes I feel like crying for weeks

some people question, but I will never be ashamed that I cry

"I am proud of my soldier" will always be my reply

because you are my hero for all that you do

you will always have my heart and that is forever true

so if you start to feel lonely remember when you look to the sky

I am staring back and thinking… not a day goes by
