That smells fishy…
This morning we went to Ikea with Lisa and Kristen. I LOVE Ikea, so it was a great time. Lisa bought Ashley a little table and two chairs, which was the purpose of the trip. We wandered the whole store, so now my legs ache.
We had lunch at Brazi’s, but it wasn’t that great. Fries were excellent though. Ash did pretty good considering it was past lunch time and almost nap time. She had wanted "boo boo" when we were at Ikea so I tried to feed her, but then she wanted her grandma (who had wandered off) more.
Ash slept the whole way home, which was an hour drive, but broken into 2 half-hour bits because we had to stop at Kristen’s and I had to transfer everything back to my car. But who cares. Ash got a nap and that is important. When we got home, she played in the pool for a bit, then came upstairs to play with her new abacus ("colours!" she loves that toy so much) and watch Elmo while I did the dishes, and then Jake was done with work so he and Ash went for a walk and more pool time.
While they were out, I built the furniture. Well, tried to. The table needs a wrench. I do not own a wrench. Why do the boxes not tell you on the outside when extra tools would be needed? Then they could also have a selection of cheap-o tools available because I would have been happy to buy one there. Yargh. So I have to go to the hardware store tomorrow and get someone to help me get a wrench. I also have to see if I can get a screw because the table is missing one! Stupid thing.
The furniture stinks. I don’t know if it is because it is pine, or if it is just that all stuff from stores always stinks… but the apartment, the entire apartment, smells like we turned it into a fish market. That disgusting fishy smell. EVERYWHERE! Ugh, can barely breathe. The pieces have been closed off in the back room for hours. I hope the smell dies down soon.
I didn’t realize until we were home and I was looking at the Ikea catalogue over dinner, but I found a rug at the store that I wanted. This one. I saw it at the store and thought "oh, that’s cute, but I don’t need a rug", as we were quickly rushing through that section because everyone was starving and tired. However, I DO need a rug and have been on the fucking look-out for a rug that I liked. And I finally found one, and cheap, and ugh. Now I have to wait until we go back there (by which time it probably won’t exist) or get it shipped here for an extra $11 (probably how much we would spend on gas to get there and back… hmm…). I have plans to rearrange our living room (have to now work out where the new furniture will go) but there will be a more clear toy area and that rug would be pretty cute as the flooring for the toy area. It would be right by our deep red couch. Would look so pretty.
Seriously. Fish. I am going to die from this smell!
Take one of the bolts you need the wrench for and one of the screws you need an extra of with you to the store. It’ll help a ton trying to find things in the right size and length. That way you don’t have to go to the store repeatedly or guess. Trust me, I learned the hard way. 🙂

It didn’t come with a little wrench?

The picture of Ash with the abacus is so damn cute. Fish smell! So weird. My IKEA stuff didn’t smell like much of anything. Well, the couch cushions smelled kinda like PVA glue. I hope the fishy smell goes away quickly. $11 delivery?! Jealous as. $90 here. 🙁

Glue used in furniture bits and the coating on the wood to preserve it have an aldehyde component which stinks and makes your eyes and nose sting and breathing a bit difficult. It is quite volatile and should clear in a couple of days in your back room. I would have expected a wrench in the pack. But having said that, I bought a Trensum which required me to use pliers or a tiny wrench and there was no indication that I needed them. That’s a lovely rug. $11 shipping sounds pretty good. Better than driving an hour each way and then trying to carry it back to the car with Ashley in tow. *giant hugs*

I bought my nephew a table and two chairs from IKEA, too! It’s red. 🙂 It’s still in the boxes (he’s too little to sit at a table yet), but perhaps I’ll warn her about the smell. Heh.

That table looks awesome (FB pics) and Ash looks like shelves it. I love Ikea, but detest it at the same time … Lol!
