OOPS!

Don’t you hate it when you know you need to write but you know there will be lots of things to write about and so you put it off and each time you put it off the amount of words gets bigger until you do decide to write and then oh shit I have way too much to write about why am I such a slack-ass?! Yeah, that.

Here goes…

So last Tuesday evening we went to Barb’s for a little gathering/party/bbq. One of Jake’s coworkers (Mel) is leaving for Boston… I think today… and another (Felicita) is leaving later this month, I think. Anyway, excuse to bake! I made a caramel slice (thankfully Kerry came to hang out in the morning so I had a chance to cook sugar without worrying about Ashley wanting to be at my feet or wanting hugs). SO GOOD. We still have a few small pieces in the fridge, I only remember when Jake isn’t home so he probably has no idea that we still have some. More for me! (Until he reads this later/tomorrow and then he can have some… if I haven’t eaten it all by then!) Ashley was so happy and she had a great time. Everyone loved getting to hang out with her. At one point she was holding someone’s phone (she spent most of the time grabbing people’s phones and giving them to me) and dancing because they had it playing Thriller. Oh, it was cute. We left not long after 8 because Ash told me it was time to go home and go to bed. The only bad part of the entire night was when we were leaving to go there. Ash saw the pool in the backyard and wanted to play. She was climbing out of the car seat and it was so difficult to strap her in but I finally got her to be still by saying there is a pool at Barb’s. There is not. I lied to her, and hoped she wouldn’t remember. When we got there she muttered "pool?" and when we left we had a small version of earlier, she wanted the pool! Thankfully she was too tired when we got home to want to play.

Natey, the burgers weren’t as good as they were last year when you got to come to the party at Barb’s. Man those were some good burgers. This year they were only delicious, not amazing.

Wednesday morning we went for a walk because it was cool enough to do so, and not raining! Ah.

(I am using my daily emails to Mum to remember the week, and I’ve been slack and not written much quite a few days.)

I don’t think there has been a day in the past week that we have not played in the pool. The last few days, Jake has taken Ash for a walk ("walk… stroller… shoes… hat… pool!" = the loop of words that Ashley will say if you mention going for a walk) and when they got back she’d play in the pool for a while. Some mornings or afternoons I have taken her out to go do something else and she ends up splashing in the pool. Only once has she actually worn bathers rather than just gone in with her clothes on. It doesn’t really make a difference to her or me, so why bother with bathers?

On Sunday I made baked mac & cheese. Jake ADORED it. He is so excited because the leftovers are his dinner tomorrow. I liked it ok, but not enough to want to bother with the leftovers. Ashley refused to even try it. Odd, she loves pasta and I told her it was pasta. Whatever. She has been refusing food often this past week. She will just about throw herself on the ground and wail if we ask her if she wants to come have dinner. She will run over and want to be in her high chair once I am sitting next to it though. For lunch today she had… a carrot. Well, half a carrot. It is so cute watching her run around with a carrot in her hand. Almost as cute as her sitting on the couch gnawing on the sideways carrot.

Tomorrow we are going to the beach with Lisa and Kristen. Should be a good day. Ash and I have to leave here early (not really… before 9:30) and drive over to Kristen’s place, and then she is driving the rest of the way. Good, my car is getting less and less something I want to drive. I don’t know how long we are going to be out, but we will be near Lisa’s so I’m just planning on it being a FULL DAY thing, because it is better to be overprepared than under. That’s why Jake didn’t eat the mac & cheese today, so he has a meal ready and waiting for him if we aren’t home at dinner. I’m glad I have about an hour after breakfast to make sure I am totally ready. I have everything out, I think, but not in the 2 bags I am taking. I have to finish sewing my wallet so I can use it again (for the past week it has been sitting with needle and thread connected to it because I started to fix it and got bored/needed elsewhere.) which is what I’m going to go do now. Yay?

You needed to have said ‘maybe Barb has a pool’. Then your conscience should be clear. Not a lie. I hope the beach day was a good one. *hugs*
