Best sounding fingers

I don’t know what I did last night, but even though I had the baby with me all night, and I was awake and aware every time she stirred and/or latched on, at 6:30 when Jake took her in the lounge, I was not completely exhausted. I wish I knew how I did that…

More packing today. I left Ashley in the bedroom because she was happily playing, and went to the bathroom (opposite end of the apartment) to grab random toiletries. After maybe 5 minutes (enough time to grab all the toiletries and rearrange the cupboard) I heard her start to fuss/cry. She had moved out of the bedroom, through the lounge, and was in the kitchen doorway. I was quite impressed, there were lots of toys and things in the way so it wasn’t just a straight path.

I’m listening to music in hopes of going to bed/waking up with something other than a kids show song in my head, but I have to take the headphones off every so often because it sounds like Ash is fussing. I told Jake he’ll have to come get me if she needs me because I can’t hear, but I probably will hear her.

Ugh, my hands stink of nail polish remover.

At lunch I went for a short walk to the convenience store just down the road. I had to grab random candies for a gift. I actually had enough already, but I really wanted to add a charleston chew to the pile because I remember grabbing one of those when I first sampled american candy that was odd to me. Man those things were gross. Thankfully I found mini ones, so I won’t have to subject someone to a full size gross. I’m actually quite proud of this gift, hopefully it is well received. I think it is just the right combination of good, weird-but-good, and gross. Unfortunately there are no twinkies in it, but… oh man, I remember trying one of those. Not good.

This time next week we should be settled in the oz-home! I think it is so weird that our flight lands at 10:30am, every other time we’ve gone for a visit it has been 6 or 7am, I swear. This may be better, less time to sit around and feel exhausted. Of course, more time travelling with an almost 10-month-old. We are leaving here at 1:30pm, and if we land at 10:30 that means getting home probably at 11:30. So that is…31 hours from home to home. I am really starting to DREAD the travel part. Ashley doesn’t have her own seat, what do we do at meal time? The trays don’t allow for space between it and me for an Ash to sit on my lap. Will we have to squeeze 2 meals on one tray? If we don’t luck out with one of the bassinets becoming free, where do we change her diapers? Is there enough floor space inside the toilet room? Will I be able to enjoy my favourite part of flying, watching movies? That one I know the answer to: no.

Change the topic, Sarah… fuck me. You know I’ve been here too long when I call myself Sarah instead of Sez! Very VERY few people call me Sez here, which makes me kinda sad. But then, if people did start calling me that, like the american family, I think that would be kinda weird…

I’m so looking forward to dinner tomorrow. Curried chicken and rice soup. Although we put so much more rice in it than it calls for, so it is less soupy and more… chicken and rice. MMM.

I never think of you as Sarah. It seemed foreign to even see you call yourself that. Heh. ~jo

In my (admittedly limited) experience, most if not all planes have a change bench that pops out of the wall in the toilet room.

:/ Long distance travel is already unpleasant without having baby worries too. I hope you get a bassinet… NoNoMo update: Today has been stupid-hot, so I went to my nanna’s house, where there is air conditioning, and had lunch and played Yahtzee. Which I won 🙂 See you next week!!

Yay! You’re almost in Australia! 😀

The flight attendants are really good with kids at meal times so they will probably serve one of you first and then serve the other one so that you can look after Ashley while one eats. As Khaos has just said – there is a change table in the toilet that you let out of the wall. Used diapers go in the waste bin there. You may be able to watch movies if Ashley falls asleep in your arms. There is actually snack food available all the time so if you wish some more food you just have to ask a flight attendant. Either by buzzing or by walking to the galley and asking. It might only be an apple or an ice cream but it will be something. They will also make you a cup of coffee at odd times too if you need. But water is best. I’d advise you to try to check in as early as possible to try to get the best seats available for you. The Qantas website clearly says to book a bassinet when you get your ticket but the travel agent refused to do that so you will have to beg the check-in person for the best seats. A bag with food and clothes and diapers for Ashley are additional to your normal carry-on baggage allowance. *giant hugs* It can’t be worse than you imagine.

So close!

There IS a changing table in the bathrooms. It folds down from the back wall usually (over the toilet). But, like everything else in the plane, it’s small. So, your baby girl may be a bit squished up. Actually, it would freak my baby out. It was such a confined space that she would start kicking and fussing (which totally doesn’t help with diaper changing). Hopefully Ash will be more cooperative!

What brought you to the US anyways? I don’t think I’ve been reading long enough to know. 🙂
