I feel like I am losing my sanity. Across the road, there has been the annoying whine of a leafblower for… at least 4 hours. Possibly longer. How could anyone possibly have that many leaves to blow? Or if it is not a leafblower, get something that doesn’t sound like the evil blower-of-leaves! I totally don’t understand the point of a leaf blower. Use a rake, you lazy ass.
I’m utterly exhausted today. I think it has something to do with the cold weather, maybe I’m not getting enough oxygen? Whatever, I feel like I’ve been working hard all day and my list of DONE is not that long so I feel very unaccomplished.
I made the brine for the turkey. Very easy, throw a bunch of things together, bring to a boil so the sugar/salt dissolves into the solution, and then cool. I made a vinaigrette to go with the salad I’ve asked to be brought along on Sunday. It is thick and an amusing colour and I think it looks and smells like runny playdoh but Jake loves it so that’s good. He has a developed palate, I do not. We make many ‘complex’ recipes that I think are kinda pointless because I can only taste one (or many two) main flavours, but Jake gets all the layers and enjoys it as such.
I also washed 4 trays worth of dishes. Everything is nice and clean now. I’m very glad I naturally want to wash things, because one of the big serving bowls (that has just been sitting in the bottom of the cupboard since this time last year) had a whole bunch of tiny fruit-fly (I think?) bodies in it. GROSS! We always get attacked by swarms of those (and ants, stupid ants) when it is summer time, and thankfully only summer time. Now everything is bug free and clean and ready to cook with or serve on or eat off of.
Oh, and I got the bread out of the freezer so it can thaw and do it’s thing and be ready to be turned into stuffing loaf. My favourite thing in the world. I love stuffing loaf. I love how it is perfect just cooked and eaten, or you can slice the loaf and put the slices back in the oven (I do this for leftovers) and it is absolutely just as good as stuffing loaf biscotti. Yum yum yum. Hopefully I’m making enough, I know Nick will eat a lot and so will others, but I like a slice or 2 with each meal of leftovers so… yeah. It is my aunt’s recipe and I assume she gave me the amounts she makes for 11 people so… yeah. Must stop ending sentences like that. Not hard to make more loaf, I did that when Ellen was here and we did mini-giving, we all adored the loaf so much I made more on the second day because we had almost eaten the whole lot the first day. Mmm.
My brain is to the point where I forget what I’ve done if I don’t write it here. So I’m so glad for this place. It’s like an external brain.
I’m so looking forward to dinner. Stuffed tomato with breaded chicken breast. YUM! Sounds even better than yesterday’s dinner, which for me was mini frittatas. I got to eat eggs AND use up leftover ham and scallions and… I forget what else.
Baby keeps flooping around inside me. I don’t know what she’s doing, it doesn’t feel like kicks, so I think she is rolling around, somersaulting and such. Quite often it sends a gush of air out of me (which comes out as "wooo…") or she moves so strongly I feel like my entire body is going to be tipped over in the direction she’s going.
The heater is on now, and I can breathe deeply and not start coughing, so oops, I was exhausted from lack of oxygen. Stupid Sez. Good that the heater is on now, I like when the place is warmer. It’s starting to get rather dark so I should probably stop typing and go turn the light on. It was light when I started! Rarr.
Have you shared the stuffing loaf recipe? Because now I want to try it!!! ~L

I’ve always wanted to try brining white meat, because I hear it makes the meat super tasty? But I could never find a good method to do it… Hope your turkey turns out well! You’re such a talented food person =)

I tried to brine pork once and it turned out very poorly. I am not a good briner.

Look after yourself. You don’t need to get asthma coz the air is too cold. Have you checked out portable heaters on the internet yet?
