It’s my birthday today! I am 27, and I am 25 weeks pregnant. That’s like, 6 months. Wow.
I fear this entry will be short, which sucks because I have lots to write about, but I’m on my phone and this thing has a tiny qwerty keyboard so each letter is an effort.
The snow storm on Saturday knocked out our cable/internet at some point while we were sleeping. So that has been a whole lot of fun. So grateful I can access the internet on my phone, even if it is slow and basic and a touch annoying. It’s nice to lay in bed in the morning and read some faves.
On Sunday, we didn’t do much. We cleaned off the car and moved it so it wouldn’t freeze to the ground. There was 6" of snow on top of the car, but it came off easily so that was kind of fun. We then went and bought some popcorn and 2 boxes of candy (mike & ikes and junior mints) and an apple, because we wanted snacks. Although we don’t have access to any show on live, we could still access our dvr, so we watched everything we could on that (the cable currently thinks we have channels 2-13, so things like Mythbusters it won’t let us watch the recording of, because it comes from a channel that doesn’t exist, and therefore it has been parentally locked. How odd.) In the evening we watched Multiplicity, I wanted to watch a cute movie and our selection of cute is very limited. Did you bring me a monkey?
Monday, Jake worked all day with no break, 8-5. I cleaned all morning, and met Jake’s Mum Lisa downstairs at 1. It was PACKED in there (hence Jake and everyone else working all day non-stop) because so many people have no power. After Lisa ate, she took me to her car so I could see my birthday gifts. She got us the stroller/car seat combo from the baby registry! So now there is a huge box in the living room. I’m so excited to get my little one out in the world in this thing. mmm, baby stuff.
We also got something so cool it’s hard not to swear when I think about it. Something we have both wanted for years. Matt (Jake’s stepdad) worked with a guy that was moving or something, and so we have now got a (probably well-loved but great condition) kitchenaid stand mixer! For free! So cool! It is massive and I have no idea what I’m going to do with it when not using it, but I can’t wait to use it. YAY!
I have more to say but my thumbs ache and the keybord isn’t picking up alot f my letters. (see?) I still have to write abut birthday dinner, and the stuff Stacy gave me that she got from her sister, so hoefully I’ll beabe to edit this entrylater. Or I’ll write a part 2 if we stilldon’t have internetconection.
Hop you are all doing well.

After looking at the gifts in Lisa’s car, we came upstairs to try and find a place to have my birthday dinner. Which took a few hours because every place we thought of, and then called to see if they were open, were in fact closed because they had no power. Finally we settled on the italian restaurant in town – not very exciting, but open. Lisa called Nick (Jake’s brother) because he and his wife Stacy were going to join us, and he was very helpful and awesome. He knew that a different Red Robin (my 1st pick!) than the one we normally go to was open, so plans were made to meet at the Milford Red Robin at 6pm. And because of the location, Kristen (Jake’s stepsister) could join us because she worked just across the road from the mall.
I had to lead, with Lisa following us, because we have a GPS. It was the only way we would be able to find the place. It was kind of like heading to New Haven so Jake can get an MRI, only we turned off before the sheep-house and went down this long back street that turned into another long back street and then finally we were there. I hate backstreets, especially ones with sharp turns and no shoulder, and it was already starting to get dark. It was very stressful for me, even though we had the GPS. I like having a rough idea of where I am.
Dinner was good. I had what I always get, a bbq chicken sandwich with strawberry lemonade. I really should try something else next time I go there, just so I can say I’ve eaten more than one thing there. After the burger was gone, I heard one of the servers (because it was Halloween, they were all dressed up – our server was a ghostbuster!) coming up behind us and announce that someone had a birthday. I looked further down our aisle of tables to see who’s birthday it was. That’s how silly I am. It didn’t occur to me that they were coming to sing to ME, because it wasn’t my birthday, my birthday was the next day. I got a pretty tasty sundae, Jake ate the cherry and whipped cream, and then I got some relatively decent vanilla icecream with non-hershey’s (YAY) chocolate syrup on it. Very cold, but tasty. Yay, birthday!
On our way out, Nick drove their car over to where ours was parked, because they had a whole pile of stuff for me in the boot. So many bags of diapers (newborn size, Stacy’s sister had just recently had a baby and he was a big baby so couldn’t fit in the diapers), a diaper bag, and the best part… a brand new breast pump. Well, almost brand new. Stacy’s sister used it once, realised she couldn’t be bothered, and switched to formula. She sterilized it and all, so it’s pretty much brand new. I’m sure we got some more things, just little baby-related things, but I don’t remember. If they ever get a truck to borrow, they have a changing table for us. Makes me wonder just how crazy-big this thing is. Hopefully we get it soon enough. I want to start setting up stuff.
As we were leaving the mall parking lot, I noticed that the GPS wasn’t charging even though it was plugged in, and was flashing the ‘no battery’ sign. Which is creepy, especially when being so far from home in a place I don’t know where I am. It then tried to tell me some random way was the quickest way home, not the way we came, but I refused to listen and went roughly the way we had gotten there. It was a good thing I did, because after about 5 minutes, the GPS went completely flat. I managed to get us home (thankfully I know how to get to New Haven and back without being guided, otherwise we would have been totally screwed.) but it was freaky and I was holding back tears the whole time before we got to where I knew (would’ve just cried, but then I wouldn’t have been able to see the tight-windy no-shoulder completely-dark-with-no-street-lights road). I think I refuse to ever go there again. Too far away, too scary because I don’t know where I am.
We got home at about 10pm, brought all the stuff in from the car and just piled it up on the dining table and went to bed.
I love my stand mixer! It’s a great addition to any kitchen.
