See, even you smiled…
You know how you don’t realise how terrible something is until you get to experience better? That’s what it was like with our computer mouse. The bastard little thing did not work. It had been bad for a while (at the tail end of Ellen’s visit she couldn’t play bejeweled half the time because the mouse just would not allow her to click and slide the pieces around) but over the last week it had gotten to the point where you click 20 times hoping that one of those clicks will register so something will actually happen! Yesterday I took it apart to see if I could fix it because it wouldn’t click on anything at all, ever. I got it to the point where I could play a game of spider solitaire (with a lot of frustration) but could not fix it, so today we went and bought a new one. And it is FANTASTIC! It moves, it clicks when you want it to… plus it’s a wireless one which we have been wanting for a while. Because of the layout of this desk, the mouse/keyboard cables can occasionally get tangled around our legs, so it is lovely to only have one cord down there now. AND because the people at Staples were a bit slack, we got it for 30% off because they had accidentally left the sale tag up even though it ended yesterday. Score.
Boring opening paragraph? I don’t care. I’m really excited to have a new mouse. (Every time I say that, I think of a live mouse… I don’t ever want pet mice again. Never ever ever.)
Umm… this week… has gone by too quickly. Every second day I had a giant WOOSH of energy, and stuff got done, and I just kept wanting to do more stuff – like bake – but I never did make those brownies. The bad part of that trend was the days I didn’t have giant wooshes of energy. Exhaustion to the point of can’t be bothered feeding myself, I’m too tired to raise the spoon to my mouth, or to hold my head up. (I did feed myself, of course, because it is not just me that needs the food. But man was it a lot of effort!)
Yesterday/Saturday, Jake worked. We got a call at about 7:30 from Barb, asking if Jake wanted to come wash some dishes for a while. Surprisingly, he was still sleeping next to me, so I got to wake him up with words which is fun. It was a really busy day downstairs, he didn’t get his lunch break until after 1:30. I spent the day… I don’t know. I think I was on the couch for most of it. I’m trying to go through the massive stack of magazines I have cluttering up the recliner. Lisa keeps giving me magazines with recipes in them, and I love that, because I like reading magazines, even if they are trashy, but I don’t want to waste my money on them. So I’ve been slowly attacking that pile over the last week, I’m down to about 10-15 magazines (just looking at it) so that’s great. Once I’m done with that I’m going to scan all the recipes and such that I’ve pulled out and then toss that pile. And then maybe I will have a clean chair again. It’s been a while, some of these magazines are from last summer – as in 2010. Or maybe even earlier.
This morning, Jake and I headed out to Staples to get our shiny new mouse. We also looked around for things because Jake needed an idea/supplies for decorating his pumpkin for work. We are really not creative people, so even when we combine our thoughts we never come up with something great. I don’t like seeing the other waitresses’ entries (they do a little comp where the customers vote on the best – I don’t know if there is a prize or not) because they are always very thought out and have props and took effort. This year, Jake’s pumpkin is wearing a zombie baby mask. He added blood around the mouth and such, but still. I think it is a cute/creepy idea, the dad-to-be making a creepy baby-related pumpkin. Pity it is such a tiny pumpkin, half the size of the mask. Ah well.
We also got cute salt/pepper shakers. I needed some for thanksgiving (otherwise the salt would be in a giant box, and that’s not a nice way to serve things) and they were on sale right next to the zombie baby masks, so that was pretty awesome. They are cute pumpkins and just look like decorative things, which makes me happy. I’m very easy to please.
Speaking of Thanksgiving, we’re not doing it as a family until Dec 4, which gives me 6 weeks to work it all out. Not that it involves much thinking, but I do have to schedule myself well so it won’t be overwhelming for 30-week pregnant me to prepare (with Jake’s help of course – he does the turkey and mashes the potatoes and whatever other little tasks I want him to do) a meal for 8 people. I’m pretty sure I’m going to kick ass. I always find it so funny that the foreigner hosts an american holiday.
This afternoon was spent relaxing, me too tired to hold my head up, Jake fetching me snacks and things when I wanted them because he is an amazingly awesome man. It’s not a tired day, I just think I didn’t have quite enough in me to go shopping and wander around multiple places. Plus, Kmart is always disgustingly hot. Last time I went was with Mum, and I had to go sit outside while she paid for things because otherwise I would have passed out. So it took me many hours to recover from the morning’s activities. I think I’m ok now, since dinner, but there is no point in not being tired now, bed time is approaching.
To end, a photo my mum recently posted that she took when she was visiting. A house down the road from the post office has two random pieces of fence, one on each side of the driveway. Mum was so amused she needed a photo. I felt like posing, so I did. (I miss Mum being here, every time I make a weird pterodactyl-burp I remember her laughing at me whenever such a noise would pop out of me… which is often, I blame Baby)
I spy a growing bump! That’s such a nice picture, the trees are so green! Definitely a different green to here, that’s for sure!

It is like a breath of fresh air when you finally get around to replacing some broken item for one that actually works. Enjoy the new mouse.
