FREEDOM

We have had power for 90 minutes! I opened the fridge to get mustard to go on my lunch sandwich (should have picked ketchup…) and got briefly confused because I could actually SEE stuff in there! I ran into the lounge room and told Ellen to look at the cable box, and the Jake (who was behind me when I opened the fridge) said "holy crap, the light is on!" So there was much yaying and grooving and maybe some high fiving. The cats got scared by our sudden enthusiasm.

We don’t have cable or internet yet, but everything else works. So much joy. I can actually take my time and THINK about what I am typing now, rather than worrying about running down the battery.

I think the funniest part is that we had given up today. Every other day we kept saying it would be on in a few hours, it would be on when we got home… Today, the CL&P hotline said most would be up in a week, they were working on getting the most customers power in less effort for them (or something that sounded like that) so we gave up hope. Then… bam, yay!

We have already emptied a very full freezer, and once things are cold again we will be checking the fridge for bad stuff. It currently smells terrible… milk and yogurt do that.
