You strike at the head!
Monday afternoon, Dad and I tackled the fun task of putting together the bookcase (I always say bookshelf, but type bookcase. I’m not sure why) and tv unit. After a trip to the hardware store to get screwdrivers and a hammer. What kind of Ikea furniture needs actual tools? Only 4 screws out of everything needed an allen key.
We got the bookcase together very easily, so decided to do the tv unit as well. After we had the whole body together and were screwing in the slides for the drawers, we realised that we had made a mistake. The very first piece we put together was backwards. By this point we had been working on the projects for almsot 3 hours, so we gave up for the day.
On Monday night, I told Dad and Jake that I was going to have bacon and eggs for breakfast the next morning. Tuesday morning when Dad and I got downstairs, Dad ordered bacon and sausages, and then accused me of copying him! He had apparently "been planning on having eggs and sausages on Tuesday morning from the start" whatever that means. He copied me.
Tuesday after Jake was done for work, the 3 of us headed to New London to see Matt and Lisa. It was Matt’s birthday, so I had made a cake. I took as much as I could fit in my giant cake carrier, and all the other pieces that looked decent I took downstairs for Jake’s coworkers. All that we have here is crumbs and weird edge bits that crumbled when I tried to slice the cake up (it cracked diagonally in half when I removed the parchment paper from it, which is the whole reason I decided to cut the cake in the first place) which is tasty but difficult to eat.
So, yes. We went to New London. Left at about 4:30, so we got there just after 6. Sat around for a little while until Matt got home from work, and then we all went to the beach. Dad wanted to touch the Atlantic ocean, so now we have both done that. It was terribly cold at the beach which was to be expected, the whole day was gloomy and rainy.
After the beach, we went to Ruby Tuesday for an incredibly delicious meal. Jake and I both got tasty tasty burgers, all the (other?) adults got seafood. I was the only one who didn’t finish their meal, but the little extra bit of my burger got passed around as people tried to work out what the tasty flavours were from. Such a mysterious deliciousness.
We then went back to Matt and Lisa’s place for cake, and Lisa showed Dad her Kindle. Which was hilarious to Jake and I, it was so much like watching a live infomercial. We didn’t leave until 10:30, and we only left then because I was getting tired but still had to drive 90 minutes home. We got back here right as the clock bell gonged for midnight. Good timing, I think.
My car’s cd player doesn’t work anymore, so we have to listen to music in the car. We always listen to the oldies station. Every trip, there is always 1 ‘sez-song’ – Michael Jackson, Bee Gees, John Lennon. However, on the way home last night, there were 2! Stayin Alive AND Off The Wall. Good songs, especially good because I needed upbeat stuff to keep me alert while zooming along highways with not a single light in any direction. No cars in front, none behind, no street lights… very creepy.
Today, Dad and I took apart the tv unit and got it back together so it is properly constructed this time. It makes the tv seem tiny. The tv IS tiny, but it never really looked it. So now I have to work out what stuff I want on the bookcase and what stuff I want in the drawers under the tv. Well, the drawer. One of the drawers is full of games and strategy guides. Would be so much easier if they were in the same place rather than in different rooms. Too much walking and sitting/standing.
Only 2 more days of Dad’s visit, this time Friday we will be heading to the airport. Or already there, I forget when his flight is. It’s been so lovely having him here, I love having family to hang out with. We are going to go to Costco at some point, and maybe have mexican for dinner, and that is the extent of our plans for the rest of his time here.
The worstest part of family visits is that they eventually leave. :o( Ummm, Sez-cake! ~jo

I clicked on the link but there is no photo. I bet the cake tasted great, whether it had fallen apart or not.
