Fire monster nostrils
I need to do more stuff so I have things to write about in here.
All week, actually for the past week and a half, I have been craving chili. It’s because I told Jake we would make chili for Superbowl Sunday (which in my head now is CHILI DAY!) and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since. Mmm. I’m thinking we will make this, but probably add some chipotles because we are NUTS for chipotles. Yum yum yum. It’s going to be a good meal.
And on Saturday we also have awesomeness planned. Mum gave us money to buy Jake some christmas presents because he didn’t get many at christmas time apparently. We got him 2 books that he wanted, and a new mechanical pencil (he’s fussy about his writing implements)… but that was all rather cheap. So we are going to go to Bed Bath & Beyond, a store we both love looking around in, and buy things that we need/want. It’s gonna be so much fun. And because it is right next to Ruby Tuesday, which is also one of our most favourite places to eat out, we are going to have delicious lunch there. This weekend is going to be so fantastic.
I feel weird writing entries and not posting pictures. I got used to it last year, so now this just feels… odd.
The Sunday just gone, we did a whole bunch of errands. We went to the laundromat, and washed more things than I think we have ever washed in one go before. Lots of present-clothes and new sheets and things that needed to be cleaned before we could use them. Really takes up the space. Billy Madison was on the tv, so it wasn’t too bad. We couldn’t hear it but I know the movie well enough that that didn’t matter. Miss Lippy’s car is green.
After that we went to Target. Well, the Subway right next to Target first, technically. The parking lots there were crazy full of snow. The whole area had pretty much been turned onto a one-way area, but it wasn’t, so there were people having to wait and getting annoyed everywhere. And most of the little road-corridors were in the wrong positions so we were driving over the parking spots. Very odd.
When we tried to go to Costco, we got turned around. We normally go a back way, but that road was blocked off because it was covered in slush. So we ended up going a huge roundabout way back to where we started from, and thankfully I had a rough idea of where I was because Jake was no help. Yay for an internal compass!
We bought so much stuff (as well as washed so much stuff) that the boot was completely full and we had to have some things in the back seat. But this is what happens when you run out of stash. We used up almost all of our stash of everything before we went to Oz at the end of last year, so we had to replenish everything. Cereals, soaps… surprisingly most things fit into those two catagories.
We have two front doors here. We have a downstairs one that we always use, it leads into a little back room that is sectioned off from the rest of the apartment, which is perfect for when outside is snowy. We can remove our snow-covered clothing and shoes and come into the apartment nice and clean and not track stuff everywhere. We also have an upstairs door that leads straight from outside to the lounge room, but that door only gets used for when I find a bug inside and want to take it outside.
The upstairs door doesn’t open. There is a blob of ice about an inch or so away from the doorframe, so the door opens just enough for me to realise that I can’t open it. So last night after moving the car for the plow-man (he’s out there again right now, but I’m too lazy to be helpful tonight) I grabbed the ice scraper thing from the car and trudged through the waist-deep snow to the stairs. I had no idea where the actual steps were, so I just kind of guessed and held onto the railing tight. Kinda freaky, but rather fun as well. The ice blob blocking the door is way too big for me to break off or anything. Hopefully there will be enough days above freezing to melt it a bit.
So in order for me to get inside, I had to go back down the hidden stairs. So I sat down and slid. FUN! I want to go actual sledding. I never have, it seems like such fun. I used to love rolling down hills, and I imagine it’s kinda the same without the dizzy factor, so maybe even better. I wish I could get out that door now, I would totally slide down the stairs so much. I kinda got tripped up at the end, but who cares. There’s a giant snow pillow at the bottom!
Maybe tomorrow when I make the long trudge to the post office (I went there the other day before they plowed the paths clean, it turned a 5 minutes round trip into 15-20 minutes. The snow was deeper than my knees. It was fun but tiring!) to get the mail, I’ll play in the snow a bit before I come inside. I wish I had someone hanging out with me all day right now, we could just go outside and play in the snow whenever. Right now, I feel like I need a reason to go outside, and THEN I can play a bit. Bah. Being a grownup is silly. PLAYTIME.
Title: Jake is weird.

How do fire monsters not burn their nostrils when they breathe fire? That’s my question. How? Are they coated in asbestos or something? Made of metal? Why do I wonder these things? Ummm…chili. ~jo

Waist deep snow??!!! Why didn’t you take photos? Yay for an internal compass! And a GPS which you obviously didn’t have with you. Maybe you should take it with you just in case your internal compass doesn’t work so well. You. L. Snow. Play. Next year. YAYYYY!!!!

Sarah you crack me up sliding down the hidden stairs. You must go sledding though, as much as I hate winter it really is fun to sled, there is a hill in Middlebury that is great for sledding.
