You smell like a dilapidated turkey

It’s October. HOW is it October already? This is crazy. And delicious.

The last two days have been pretty excessively weathered. Both mornings I woke up to pouring rain and an almost-overflowing bathroom. We have 3 little pans in there that the landlord left laying around when we moved in, and a giant bucket that we brined a turkey in last year. The pans get full, we dump them in the bucket. The bucket is also under the most continuous leak (this morning, for at least 2 hours, it sounded like someone was trying to pee but couldn’t get the whole consistent-stream thing going) …there is at least 4 inches of water in there. Lovely super-strong tea coloured water. So both mornings I’d get up and go pee, get my arms dripped on as I reached for the toilet paper, get my knees dripped on by one leak and my hip dripped on by another. FUN! Of course, every time it rains like this, our landlord doesn’t come visit the restaurant downstairs so we never get a chance for him to come up here and see how bad it is when it is raining. He’s seen the ceiling on dry days, and there is obvious evidence of such water-behaviour then, but… you gotta see it when it is pouring out. Next time, I’m gonna get my camera out and make a little video.

Both days, the rain stopped by the afternoon. Yesterday there was MASSIVE wind all afternoon and all night. It was pretty hilarious sounding. Our bedroom always sounds like it is going to blow away when there is strong wind, because it hits all three walls that connect to the outside.

Tomorrow, I have to bake. I’m definitely making brownies, but I have to make something else. I’m currently leaning towards lamingtons, but I need a cake pan for that. The other option in my mind is these espresso caramel bars. The good thing is, either way I only need to buy one ingredient. Mmm, I have such a well-stocked baking cupboard.

Anyway, the reason I’m baking is that we are having a family dinner at Jake’s sister (Kristen)’s apartment on Sunday. I’ve been asked to bake something yummy. Which I’m awesome at. I like making yummies.

I don’t really have anything to say. I like that it is autumn now though, because there are so many pretty trees all over town. And I like that it is October, because there will be more and more and more pumpkins all over town. Such amusement. It reminds me of when I came to visit Jake and all the pumpkins made me giggle, because they were everywhere.

Beautiful photos. I would video the leaks for sure. We have started doing that with anything that goes wrong in this apartment.

you could probably make the lamington sponge in a slice pan, then just layer them with jam in between rather than having to cut a cake-sized sponge in half
