You’re such a nasal flavanoid

These two pictures make it look like I’ve grown massively in the last few years, but in the second one we’re sitting on the couch. I just realised Jake is wearing the same shirt. That first picture was taken at the end of my visit here in September/October 2005. The secnd picture is us on our 4th wedding anniversary. I was trying to get a replica of our first photo together, but they all came out either blurry, or Jake looking at me instead of the camera.

I made myself a yummy coffee this morning, but I made it a bit too strong so I was bouncing off the walls, running around like crazy (although I do that normally, it was just moreso) and typing really really fast with lots of rambles. I’m gonna share the email I sent to mum this morning, because it really demonstrates that. Plus, it says a lot. Mum, sorry, I know you just read all these words, but there will be new ones after 4 paragraphs!

I didn’t update OD last night. Not much to tell. We had honey mustard chicken for dinner. At the last minute I decided to make the "tangy tater salad" that was made in the same episode of Cooking For Real that we got the chicken from. Jake adores that potato salad. It was good because we already had the potatoes and the bacon sitting around from when we had brinner last week. We were going to just have brinner again to use them up but this way is different and therefore good. All I had to do was go to the store to get a jalepeno. Not that I can taste the jalepeno in it. Or the garlic, of spring onions, or paprika. All I taste is te apple cider vinegar that is used to make the majority of the sauce. The liquid is half a cup of the water the potatoes cooked in, 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar, and 1/4 cup sugar. So it just tastes slightly appley and vinegary to me. Jake says he tastes all the layers as backnotes and such. His palate is much more tuned to flavour than mine. Possibly because when he was working at Nestle, part of the time he was testing the flavour of things and you need to know how to pick up subtle flavours.

I’m rambly. Oops. I read on… somewhere. Somewhere I was this morning on the internet, on the side of the page it was all IT IS NATIONAL COFFEE DAY! and that put the idea in my mind. I was already craving eggs rather than oatmeal so I had a cup of hot coffee milk (because it’s not REALLY coffee the way I make it, is it?) and a slice of bread that I cut a circle out of (well, a pumpkin, because I don’t have a boring circle cutter) and cooked the egg in that hole. And from the tiny amount of butter that I put in the pan, the bread got all toasty and flavoury and it was just yumm yumm. Nice little special breakfast. I was already planning on cleaning massively today, so I can now take advantage of the caffeine boost and zoom through it all. Everything smells very strong the last few days, and most of the smells aren’t nice. So I have to change all the towels and the bedsheets (Jake has been drooling in his sleep a lot lately, last night when we went to bed his side near the pillows was still moist! Ew!!) and get all of Jake’s work shirts in the hamper so he is forced to wear FRESH ones and not smell like something that will make me vomit.

So glad Natey has been cleared of H1N1. I hope his old-man roommates are friendly. And that he starts eating soon.

Jake got a message from his Poppa on facebook this morning. He’s coming over from Illinois to visit Lisa next week and wants to have breakfast at some point with us. I assume downstairs where breakfast is king. So that shall be lovely. We haven’t seen Poppa since Nick and Stacy got married more than 2 years ago. I like that I gained a living grandpa by marrying Jake. It’s like all "mmm, bonus"

And that’s when I ran out of words. Or maybe got sick of sitting still, I forget which.

Today I cleaned like a maniac. Running from one end of the apartment to the other, multitasking. Mostly I was doing things at each end like that so I had a reason to run when the mood struck me. Jake came home for his very-short lunchtime break right at the peak of my energy, so he was giggling at my silly. I like that, because he really did have a tiny break, not much time to relax because it was so busy downstairs, so hopefully the laughing made the time feel longer or something. But yes, the apartment is nice and shiny, inside the freezer is not full of ice anymore (which will hopefully stop the fridge-ceiling from dripping) and I feel accomplished.

We went to the farmer’s market today. Thankfully we didn’t need much, because Jake’s wallet only had $2 in it. we got 2 zucchini and left with 3 quarters, I think. The whole way there and back, I had to have my hand over my mouth and nose. There were tiny little bugs (Jake calls them fruit flies? Tiny little things that can barely be seen and like to hang out on ripe bananas) EVERYWHERE. The entire town is pretty much covered in them lately, every time we go for a walk we stop a few times so I can pick the bugs off Jake’s face (they stick to his sweat) and he can make sure none are on me. The farmer’s market is in the opposite direction to where we normally walk, and there were more bugs than I expected. So I was walking along, looking like I was trying to escape a bad smell. But it was either that, or not talk, and I am always very rambly on our walks. It’s because I’ve missed Jake and want to tell him about everything that I did. I usually have at least one long story to tell.

Tonight’s dinner was 3 meals in one. Well, I guess 2 because we have the honey mustard chicken with the potato salad yesterday. We had a bit of leftover pasta-and-bean-soup-that-is-so-dry-it’s-just-a-chunky-pasta-sauce which we topped with the tangy potato salad and chopped up bit of honey mustard chicken. I was slightly afraid the flavours wouldn’t work but it was YUMMY. Maybe better than the tato salad by itself, because the flavours were mellowed and mixed with other stuff.

Ok, this appears to be too many words. Sorry for the massive ramble! I shall end this with a picture of the awesomely amusing mushrooms we have outside at the moment. Normally we just get plain flat boring mushies, so this is great.

Mushrooms!!

Great mushrooms! In another life, I would have been a Mycologist. ‘Shrooms are cool! (All of them, not just the “magic” variety.)

Weird fungal arrangements!!! Cool replication of pictures. Love you lots!!!

Aww. I noticed Jake was wearing red in both pictures so when you said it was the same shirt I was like cool. I’m going to ask the folks if we have a farmers market here. …I just looked it up apparently we do! 😀 I don’t think I’ve ever been to one but they don’t seem super expensive so that’s good. I’ll try and go and then write about it. Those mushrooms remind me of a nectarine seed.

awww what sweet pics xx

ryn: Massive nort. Ooo phone norts. I don’t know I think she might have mixed it with something. Hehe I’ll ask. I should try what your doing too because I break out. Woo awesome stuff from Shamone. A disc would be lovely. Thanks. 🙂 Woo local. I’m kind of excited like kid in a candy store exited. Probably because it’s all new and stuff. Yay new! 😀 Ours is probably small too.

Considering I didn’t know about it I’m sure lots of other people don’t either.
