Boxes full of crime
Yesterday we got some good news. Jake’s 6 weeks off was approved! Woo! Barb said that they will make it work. I’m so glad, I was a little worried they wouldn’t let him go for so long. But he hasn’t taken more than a day off since we went down for Christmas 08, so it is well deserved and needed (and those days off he has taken were for things like doctors or green card appointments – important things.)
Today has been SUCH a long day. Not as long as last Saturday (I can’t believe that was only a week ago…) but still pretty long. When I woke up I was very confused as to why Jake was still home, I was convinced it was a weekday and he should have been at work.
We had to do boring things, like grocery shop, go to Staples to pick up an ink order (mmm, I can print things and the words won’t come out red now… yay) and do the laundry. Laundromat was creepy today, full of creepy bugs. A multi-coloured fly landed on my shirt, it was rather pretty but I didn’t get a picture of it. Jake didn’t know what I was trying to point out to him until the fly left me and hit his hand and he freaked out.
There was another massively creepy bug that was hanging out on the window behind us. Jake says it is a mosquito, but I have never seen one this big.
Look at this thing! Disgustingly freaky. That body is at least an inch long. It started flying around not long after I took this photo, and that was just… creepy creepy scary creepy. I don’t like big flying bugs, in case you can’t tell.
The rest of today has been rather nice and lazy. My dear friend JJ called me, and we talked for probably an hour about ridiculous things that I can’t even think to explain. And about how the two of us and Amrai need to get together one day. Which we do. Would be even better if we could get our friend Spicy to join us, that would be what we call ‘sheepmas’ and that would be perfect. That is rather unlikely though, as she doesn’t live in the US like the rest of us. Who knows…
Jake and I had Subway for dinner. We bought it for lunch and then were too busy to eat it, so it became dinner. We had it with fries and it was just… mmm… so very delicious. Probably had something to do with the fact that it was the first thing I ate today. My eating habits have been SHIT this week. I had powdered sugar for a snack yesterday! (I was eating some of the espresso meringues that aren’t sweet enough for my tongue, so I was dipping them in the powdered sugar. And then I felt I had eaten enough caffinated egg white so I ate the rest of the sugar…)
After our shower tonight, Jake and I just laid on the bed being all relaxy and giggly. It was so very lovely. In fact all of today has been lovely, even though it has felt massively long it has been with my Squid and I love my Squid for he is awesome fun to hang out with.
Our calendar in this room is one I made through a website last year, so all the pictures are ones that either feature us or were taken by one of us. This month’s picture is one that I can’t get over how beautiful it is. It was actually taken 4 years ago today, when we were in Sydney, the day before my visa interview. So glad I got my visa and was able to move to the states to get married and live with the man that I love so much.
OMG! I saw a bug that looked like that only pitch black at the grocery store yesterday!! EWWWW.

In England they call those “Daddy long legs” maybe they do in Americaland too. We all know a real daddy long legs is a spider though 🙂 (this is Claire again, woo for accidental hacking)

I’ve done a quick google search and it seems it may be a crane fly. Don’t bite people or animals. When it flew did it kind of stagger in the air?

That’s not a mosquito. That’s a freaking bird. I’m not a fan of the flying insects either.

Oh hi! Johanna recognises that fountain, cause she is a Sydney person. And apparently she almost got to do some conservation work on it, but couldn’t get time off from her other job (gift-wrapping!). I just think it’s an awesome photo, being all rainbow-y 😀

Ouuu, that’s what we call a Daddy Long Legs. They don’t sting or anything. We used to catch them as children and put them all in a bread bag and the buzzing sound would be insanely loud. Then we’d let them go. Or sadistic children would pull their wings off. :o( They’re totally harmless though, I promise. ~jo

OMG! The picture of that bug FREAKED me out!!! My boyfriend said it’s a mosquito hawk and that they eat mosquito or mosquito larva from the water, so they’re actually good bugs. :-/ Still look icky and spooky, though. Beautiful picture of the fountain. 🙂
