Weekend Highlights

Dear Diary,

Although the weekend went by entirely too fast overall it was really lovely.

Friday on my lunch I did a couple of fun errands.  I picked up a few scrap supplies at JoAnn’s and then quickly popped into TJ Maxx to see what they had to offer in the PJ department.  I ended up finding a few summer nightgowns and then a pj short set, too.

Friday night my drive to where I was scrapping for the weekend took a bit longer than anticipated but was pleasant overall.  We usually meet in Gettysburg but chose Chambersburg since Gettysburg is having their big 150th anniversary celebration.

Chambersburg is one of the closer Hobby Lobby locations for me so I made a stop there before heading to the hotel.  I bought a card project that I hope to work on at the beach camper this coming weekend in the evenings.  I also picked out a fall scrapbook (burlap) and a few odds and ends…..  Halloween embellishments for the Artist Trading Cards I’m working on.  Fun stuff!

Once at the hotel we made a trip out for dinner and some DVDs.  Longhorn was the dinner choice.  I had a really yummy sirlion topped salad…. just perfect!  At Target we grabbed Les Miserables, Downton Abbey Season 3 and Princess Bride.

I was primarily focused on scrapping but watched Princess Bride and some of Downton Abbey.  This was my first exposure to Downton Abbey and I think I’d like to go back to the first season and watch from the start.  Les Mis was turned off about a half hour in.  Too much singing for some.  But I was given the DVD and will watch it again on my own.  I was enjoying it.  I was given Princess Bride, too and I am looking forward to watching it with Reagan.  I’d like to watch Never Ending Story and Labyrinth with him sometime, too.  I put all three of those movies in the same category from my childhood.  I saw the Never Ending Story at Target for about $5 awhile back and wish I would have grabbed it.  It would be a good camper movie for us.

I finished the California Adventure scrapbook which was my main goal for the weekend.  Once home last night I did about a dozen pages in the Cub Scout album, too.  I have three pages left in that book but want to go back to JoAnn’s and grab a few papers I spotted there for the pics.  I will probably do that on my lunch today.

Besides those few layouts I have maybe 25 beach pics on my camera.  I need to have those printed and scrap them this week, too.  THEN I can once again say I’m all caught up with my scrap.  That always feels good!

Saturday I spent a couple hours laying by the hotel pool.  I read  A Walk Through Nantucket while poolside and enjoyed it.  The hotel served breakfast but mid afternoon we went out for a meal at Applebees.  I had a yummy petite sirlion with a big salad wedge and red potatoes.  All delicious and just right!  Oh! and I also enjoyed a really yummy Mucho Mango Margarita…… a heaping glass of heaven!

The wine at these weekends flows pretty freely and over the couple of nights I had at least a couple of glasses.  I don’t drink much in my current stage of life and it feels really indulgent when I do.

While I had the time away from just about all distractions (besides scrap) I decided to go back through all of the shore excursions for my upcoming cruise.  I narrowed them down, made final decisions and made reservations for four of the ports.    I’ll start and end in Venice but plan to tour there without making reservations except for perhaps a meal or gondola ride reservation with the concierge once at the Crowne Plaza.

We ended the weekend scrap away with one more really nice meal at Olive Garden.  I always adore their Zuppa Tuscana (sp?) soup and I had it with their garden salad and bread sticks.  Love their peach iced tea, too…  More yumminess!

I was home by five last night and did a few chores, packed a bit for the upcoming beach weekend, scrapped in the Cub Scout book and then showered before one of my favorite parts of the day……  Reagan and I had our evening snuggle up where he reads to me (currently a level 2 The Croods) and then I read to him from the 35th Magic Treehouse book.  I think this series is the best!  We both really enjoy it.  We are currently in Paris with Jack and Annie for the 1889 World’s Fair.  In the last book we journeyed to the ancient city of Baghdad.  Just before that we were in Venice (with a side of Atlantis) with Leonardo de Vinci.  Really cool stuff….   And it comes back through in Reagan’s play….  Last beach weekend he asked to make Baghdad in the sand.  When we eventually added boats it turned into Venice and there was talk of Atlantis, too.  He’s building these grand, never ending creations in Minecraft and last night he showed me a mix of Atlantis (with a side of Sponge Bob).  I guess the point is that I love how what we read resurfaces as he plays.  It makes me giddy like only books do.

Enough rambling from me….  Happy Monday!

what do you use to ‘travel’ with your supplies? I’m wanting to start scraping but dont have the space to leave it out so i’m looking something to pack, store, but easily get out to scrap.

Went to Olive garden today and had exact same thing other than the peach tea. However did go to Wawa and drank a peach smoothie.

ryn: Yes, they have a few Wawas down in Orlando. One is right across from Sea World. I love autumn, but like near the end of August is when I get into it. Larry has been submitting for jobs. The one in CA might be a no go, the pay isn’t good for CA anyway.

I was afraid too! I thought they would be slippery, but they shock the water- I guess with chlorine maybe? So there is literally NOTHING growing on the rocks, and they aren’t slippery, if anything a little rough. STILL though I had to go out there and check for myself. lol!

Oh! Those movies bring back childhood memories. I love all three!

I love all the reading with Reagan! Those are some of my favorite memories so I’m glad the love for it is starting so early. What plans do you have during your cruise/in Venice? Next summer my work will take me to Austria and I’m really hoping for some European adventures! Ashley

I have a great recipe for zuppa Toscana if you want it. Also -if you want – let me know your cruise ports & I can tell you what we did there & give you any travel trips I might have.
