Mother’s Day = Beach Day! *pics*

Dear Diary,

Mother’s Day got off to a rough start but all is well that ends well.  I had the car all packed to leave from  the beach camper for the weekend and head to the beach for the day.  I was just doing a few last minute cleaning / maintenance things before locking up the camper.  Reagan was waiting in the car but climbed out to come and check on me.  Even though the camper and car are practically side by side he decided he needed to lock up the car.  I’m sure he was trying to be responsible.  He ended up locking the keys in the car without realizing it.  I usually don’t worry about this happening because the driver’s door doesn’t lock unless you push the key button or physically turn the key in the outside lock.  But because he was inside the car and the door was shut he locked the front door and then climbed into the back seat, locked those doors, climbed out, etc.  As soon as he realized what he had done he broke down in tears and felt so awful.  I just consoled him and told him these mistakes sometimes happen.  He felt horrible.  My phone was locked in the car, too.  Fortunately a neighbor helped us.  I called a couple of locksmiths using the neighbors phone but neither was available to help.  The neighbors ended up calling on their AAA membership.  It took a couple of hours to resolve but eventually we were on our way to the beach.  I need to pick up some restaurant giftcards to say thank you to the neighbors.  They saved the day.  I should probably resign up our family with AAA, too.  We had it for years but have not the last couple.  I am on the go enough (usually on my own or with just Reagan) that I should renew.

Around 11:30 we made it to the beach.  It was in the 60s and sort of breezy but we still had a lovely few hours on the beach before making the drive back to PA.

It was really too cold for water play but that makes no difference at 5…. (almost 6!)

My Happy Boy!

I never did end up taking off my dress and cardigan but my toes were in the sand so, no complaints!….

Reagan and I dug a big hole for him to play in…

He was having fun flinging the sand….. see it flying?

There is goes… this game only works early in the season when the beach is practically empty….

Making tunnels with the back end of the shovel….

Silly, sandy boy….

Peek….

More silly play….

Last Friday at school author Matt Novak was presenting in the Lower School Library.  I went and watched his presentation to Kindergarten and 1st grade.  Later that same day I was in the public library on my lunch and I picked up Novak’s book Newt. We enjoyed that on one of the nights at the camper.  (today two more autographed copies of Novak’s books should be delivered to Reagan in class…. The Everything Machine and something about zombies.  Anyway, it was special to get to meet him and hear him speak.  I also got Reagan to give a Amelia Bedelia book a try.  I loved these as a girl.  The first time I checked a few out Reagan sort of rejected them as girl books but this weekend he was more open about it and he laughed and laughed just like I used to about them.  Fun stuff!  Last night we read a Serendipity book called Snifflles. The Serendipity series were childhood faves for me, too and Reagan has been picking them most nights lately.  The moral of Sniffles was about exageratting and we did a lot of laughing during that, too.  We read a lot of it twice just to laugh again.  We are in the middle of a Magic Treehouse book, too.  We still enjoy those.  I love sharing books with him so much!  Last night it was about bedtime and all I wanted to do to make my Mother’s Day complete was snuggle up with him to read a book.  It’s the best!

We watched a few movies together this weekend, too.  I reserved a couple of Redbox movies at the shore before we left town.  We watched Rise of the Guardians  andalso a Arctic documentary.  He’s studying Antartica right now.  From the public library I also picked up a Antarctica documentary.  All were good.   Saturday evening after mini golf, before returning to the camper we stopped at Walmart.  I bought Reagan a Lego set but also picked out a DVD set with the four Free WIlly movies.  We watched the first and I’m looking forward to watching the other three on beach weekends this summer with him.

I’m making my way through some of my own books, too.  I finished two Richard Paul Evan books this weekend.  One was A Winter’s Dream. The other was book 4 in the Walk Series, Step of Faith. Both were excellent.  I recommend his books!  I’m also reading Tuscan Holiday and listening to Bon Appetit.   I have a couple of Karen Kingsbury waiting in line.

I did some scrapbooking in the Carsland book over the weekend but still have a way to go.  This coming weekend is a weekend at home and is pretty open.  I’m hoping to make both scrap progress and also to make more progress on painting the garage.

The weekend is still pretty far off…. still have to get through the week.

Today was the Mother’s Day celebration in Kindergarten.  It was really special.  I haven’t been through the pictures yet but I’m looking forward to sharing them once I do.

Happy Monday, again….

I’ve had AAA since I had Eric. Thankfully I’ve never had to use it, but at least I know it’s there. Happy Mother’s Day.

Looks like you had a great trip. So sorry for the lock out.

Such cute pics, as usual! Glad you were able to get the keys being locked in the car resolved fairly quickly. Thank goodness for your neighbors!

Awwwwwwww what a sweet boy caring about his mommy and making sure the car was secure. I’m glad it wasn’t running! I’m glad you had a great Mother’s Day! *HUGS*

RYN: I get it.. thanks for understanding. I am in awe of you and your scrapbooking. 🙂 I want to read the 4th Walk book! I am not sure if I will buy it or try to get it from the library. I have a few other books to finish first.

The car thing is horrible, but I’m glad you had some nice people to help you out! And at least you were still able to make the beach weekend a good one. Ashley
