New York City, Part 3 *pics*
Dear Diary,
These pictures bring us to Monday morning. I’m going to start with a "What I Wore". I had mentioned in the previous week that I found a dress sale. I found 4 dresses at $20 each. This is one of them….
I got this necklace earring set the same day/ place….
These shoes quickly proved unpractical in the city. I only had a couple of blocks to walk between the hotel and conference center but I switched to flats the next few days…
I just threw on this denim jacket on with it. It was a bit cool…
Hair pic…
From about 8 to a bit after 5 I was in class this day. In the evening I put on some clothes and shoes condusive to getting a good walk in and set out.
I walked towards Battery Park to start. You can view the Statue of Liberty from there…
A little market on the corner…
Beautiful building in that area… National Museum of the American Indian. ( I just watched Autumn in New York again this weekend. The cinematography in the movie is great. Love all the NYC scenes. Anyway, there are shots of this museum in that movie as well.)
I didn’t take many pics that night. I grabbed dinner at Chipotle. It was right on the corner by my hotel. Convenient and yummy. I also picked up a couple pairs of inexpensive flats to wear the next couple of days….
So we are on to "What I Wore" for Tuesday now…
This dark wash, denim dress was one of the $20 finds, too….
Scarf and yellow skinny belt….
Earrrings…
And these are one of the pairs of flats I picked up the night before….. super comfy!
Again, I was in class from about 7:15ish (we started early) until 5. I had talked with a man briefly earlier in the day. He and his wife had just moved to the city about 7 weeks before and he was helpful with subway instructions. I ended up riding the subway for the first time in NYC that evening. There were parts that were a bit confusing but it all worked out. I rode it uptown and got off at Columbus Circle near Central Park. I walked around the south end of Central Park for a bit….
Columbus Circle….
There were a lot of daffodil groupings in full bloom in the park. This was a cute spot with the bridge / tunnel and the carriages crossing above….
One noter asked about a carriage ride. I didn’t do one this trip. I like seeing them but don’t have a strong pull to hire one.
Daffodils….
I’ve seen the carrousel in Central Park before. In fact it is a strong memory for me. It was maybe 8 years ago and Petula Clark’s Downtown was playing that time. I always think of that memory when I hear that song.
Very pretty!
Cute squirrel! He’s pretty camoflauged…. see him?
The trees in bloom *melt me*. This happens here at home, too. Love this time of year….
This spot caught my eye, too… The carts…. love the little tunnel/bridge spots in the park….
So cute!
A rustic pavilion…. It reminds me of Mohonk Mountain House…
Adorable little roof top!
Approaching Dylan’s Candy Bar. At this point I had left the Central Park area and was walking east? on 60th towards my dinner destination of Serendipity 3
This was a repeat for me, too but I love anyplace this sweet…
This store is so cute! I’ll have to bring Reagan here sometime. He’s been into the city a couple of times and we’ve hit a lot of the kid friendly sights but I have not brought him to Dylan’s yet.
A big chocolate bunny!
This illuminated staircase is imbedded with candy. Very fun!
Vintage candy…. I resisted buying an Abba Zabba! Love those!
Dylan’s has a little umbrellaed seating area alongside their storefront.
City scenes…
Not the best pic but Serendipity was my dinner destination. I had been here once before, too.
The have a little gift shop….
Their big menu…

It’s an adorable, kitschy little place! Love all the Tiffanyesque lamps!
I knew I’d be having a frozen hot chocolate so I just ordered an appetizer for dinner…. dim sum. I can’t recall having dim sum before. I’ve been meaning to Google what it was. fish? dough? not sure. Yummy enough though. But not as yummy as this was! It’s a size that must be meant to be shared. I ate about half. So good!
Another pic of a part of the restaurant further back….
And a quick pic from the gift shop…
I decided to window shop some at Bloomingdales…
I had forgotten that Magnolia Bakery has a location there…
This Bloomingdale’s window for the fragrance Something Blue drew me in. I went in to test it and liked it but couldn’t bring myself to pay $85 for a little bottle… It’s a lovely scennt BUT…. I’m more of a $35 max a bottle girl. I’m glad I decided against it.
This picture is a little dark but…. a pretty church along my walk back to the subway…
I have a subway pet peeve after just one day of use. Both directions there was someone with earbuds in (so they could privately enjoy the music of their choice) but then they were singing out loud. It happened to be rap in both cases where every second or third word was cursing. I’m pretty sure if you need to sing while travelling that you should get your own vehicle. But it you do choose to sing while using public transportation it should probably be something a bit more wholesome. It just seemed really out of line to me.
And don’t get me started on the bus driver that stopped in NYC traffic and peeked his rude mouth out that little triangle window until my cab driver rolled down his window so that the bus driver could call him an Fing Moron…. not once but twice. He also threw in an extra Fer. And then my cab driver stooped to his level to call him an Fing Moron. too. BOTH were in their professional roles driving at the time. I use professional loosely…. On what planet is any of that okay?! unbelievable. I’m a sheltered girl!
Onto Wednesday…. another "What I Wore"…
I got several days out of this same set of jewelry…
The other flats I picked up….
<img class="zoomPrevImg" alt="" src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a3da03b3127ccef2b8a98735f000000030O38AbsXDZu4bNAe3nwQ/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00004687681720130422132506786.JPG/ps%3D50/r%3D3/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/” />
Wednesday evening I grabbed Chipotle again and then came back to the hotel where I took the sample test for the HR Exam I was prepping for. I then began the registration for the test and went to bed.
Thursday was the day I travelled home…. the 4th of the $20 dresses…. This one is the most "me". I like the denim one a lot, too. The stripes and chevron print are a bit different for me.
Same jewelry again…
Same navy shoes as above.
Alright…. now a bit of a catch up.
I settled back into work Thursday afternoon. Thursday evening I did a bit of damage control at home to try and get everything back the way I like it. I mowed and picked up and cleared surfaces, mopped floors, scrubbed the tub, etc. The boys didn’t have a complete free-for-all but I tend to scurry almost constatly while home tidying and paying attention to the details. Often the details allude Keith. He doesn take care of big picture things like meals, dishes though and for that I’m thankful.
Friday night we had a rainstorm. I began to organize the CA Adventure project into scrapbooks. I ended up splitting it into two. One has CA Adventure minus Cars Land. The other has Cars Land and Downtown Disney. Sometime Sat I finished the organizing and I maybe scrapped about 15 pages this weekend.
Saturday morning while all was still wet from the storm I spread the Weed and Feed over the lawn. Getting the timing of that just right is always tricky. I did the laundry, made a library run, took Reagan to a birthday party, did a quick shop at Target and then came back home to continue scrapping.
I did get in some studying for the HR test on both Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday I got a good hour walk in during the morning, did some scrapping and then made a lot of progress on painting the garage. I’m probably about a third of the way done with that project. I’ve painted the front and side pretty highup. I need to bring out the extension ladder to finish the second story. And then I need to do the back completely. I had bought red paint for the man door into the garage. Reagan tackled most of that project. It was so cute! He wanted to do the door so I asked him to go put red clothes on. He came out in solid red shorts, red flip flops and a little red golf shirt and went to work. He felt really good about helping out and tackling a big project. And the red door looks so good on the freshly painted garage!
I really want to add a few window boxes with herb gardens in them, too. And maybe shutters. We’ll see…..
Reagan also helped the neighbors with a project. The little boy next door is on vacation with his mom and grandma at Disneyworld. His Dad and Uncle are building one of those big wooded play structures for him while he is away. Reagan helped with that a bunch and I could tell he was pleased to be included and proud to be able to be helpful with the project.
Yesterday evening I took Reagan for a walk to the park. He rode his scooter part of the way. I carried the scooter some. I carried the scooter and him on my shoulders part of the way back. He’s getting big. He’s just tipped the scale to 50 lbs!
Last night Reagan read to me for awhile from a book he had not read before. It makes me SO happy to hear him read. Seriously! Little brings me more joy than that and I’m a pretty joyfilled person! I also read him one of the books from my Serendipity collection…. Leo the Lop. The Serendipty (Stephen Cosgrove) books were favorites when I was a girl.
That brings us to today. It’s a full work week. I’m hoping to work a couple hours in advance this week in order to leave at 3 on Friday when school lets out. Reagan and I will head to the shore for our first official beach weekend of the season! YaY!. So far the forecast is only 60s but we’ll manage fun regardless of the weather. I am not so secretly hoping for a warm up though. I’d love to reach the 70s and have heavenly, warm beach days.
We may get together with our previous tenants one night this week. They had unexpected company come last Saturday and needed to reschedule. Reagan will have a couple soccer nights, piano one night. Those things happen here at school before I’m even done for the day.
I hope to find some time during my workdays to focusing on studying for the HR test. It’s all completely work related here so I don’t feel to guilty studying here as long and I’m prioritiziing all my work to make time for it.
I’m starting to pull plans together for Reagan’s 6th birthday celebration. It is just under 2 months away now. I’m thinking on the actual weekday that I’m going to take a personal day and take Reagan to the new Lego Discovery Center in New York. The weekend after I’d like to have a mini golf/ ice cream party with about 7 little boys. Reagan would like this to be Angry Bird themed. Not my first choice but I plan to comply since it is his birthday. And then the third part will be a small gathering with family. Probably that same weekend after. That should more than celebrate turning 6.
I guess that’s it.
Happy Monday!
