NYC Recap, Part Two *pics*

Dear Diary,

Picking up where I left off in the last entry…

I had come across a 75% off sale at a Claire’s in Pier 17 and found a few pieces of novelty costume jewelry.  Everything was just a dollar or two a piece…

A Paris charm bracelet…. I recently bought a long necklace with an eiffel tower charm in a similar style.  I have no idea where I think I’m going to wear either but maybe sometime on the weekend for something fun and casual.  I’ve been having a lot of Paris daydreams.  I’d like to do about 5 days there.  Maybe on my own… just exploring the city, taking in the sights and I want to do Disney there.  Dinsey makes me want to bring Reagan but the rest I think is better to do on my own.  We’ll see… I’m dreaming and window shopping for travel deals right now….. Maybe in 2014!

A brown flower pin / hair clip and earrings…

These are little nail decals that look like little slices of fruit.  I have no idea what I was thinking besides they’ll be fun for summer…..?

A Christmas in New York shop…. also at Pier 17….

The Brooklyn Bridge with a boat crush passing underneath…

Leaving Pier 17….

This shows a diagram of the Sea Port area…. the majority is still closed due to Sandy damage…

I grabbed a soft pretzel at this stand before continuing my walk towards Chinatown…

Little peeks of pretty buildings along the walk….

This isn’t a great pic but I took it to remember the moment…. I had passed into Chinatown.  It was on a Sunday that was pretty out and the park was full.  There were several doing Tai Chi others playing what I think is Mahjong.  It just felt like a very culturally engaged nook of the city….

A waffle cart…. I don’t remember noticing these in the past…

I walked Canal Street… I wasn’t really in the mood to shop that way… I just passed through. I ducked in and out a bit but it wasn’t holding my attention….

The trees were blooming and it was a pretty time in the city…

I’m now in the Soho area….

Washington Square Park was active on a pretty Sunday afternoon…

Row homes near NYU….

This was a cute street…

<div class=”zoomPicturePreviewDiv”>

I had my little Knopf Mapguide and would regroup and get my bearings from time to time along my walk…. This was the day I covered 12 miles on foot…

There is SO MUCH architecture that it’s overwhelming but sometimes one in particular catches my eye and stands out…

More trees in bloom and pretty buildings….

A cute Vespa…

I came across this little store in Greenwich Village and consider it a total gem!  I plan to return!  The Greenwich Letterpress.  Awesome cards, stationary, newsprint wrap.  LOVED IT!

Terrrible pic but a little pennant banner hanging over the register…

It stole my heart…

The sweet family that use to live in our upstairs apartment had their baby last month.  We have plans to see their new home and baby this Saturday.  I grabbed this card and newprint wrap there and hoped to find a gift later in the day to go with it all…

I also picked up the postcard below there.  The other things were from another stationary store near Soho….  I needed a new letter sized pad for my portfolio and we were out at the office.  The little pack is for the organizer I carry in my purse and I just have a thing for printed letter sized folders.

After reading Paris, My Sweet recently I ordered both the Eiffel Tower charm necklace and this cupcake reuseable shopping bag online.  I’m easily influenced…. or something like that….

There was little spot in Greenwich with all these adorable planters.  I’m assuming it was a restaurant but I never quite figured it out.  There was a pewter pig hanging over the door…. whatever that means…

The planters were cute though….

i popped in at Magnolia Bakery in the village….

Sprinkles…

Jars of cookies….

The cupcakes they are so famous for…

cuteness!

I tried one of these…. Chocolate Peanut Butter…. It was gluten free but they had me at Chocolate Peanut Butter….

I almost never where a t-shirt but do love the I *cupcake* NY one!

A frozen yogurt truck! Who knew?!

I had never walked the Highline before.  That was my next destination.  It’s a nice path away from traffic.  It’s an old raised railway line that is being converted to walking paths.  Great idea!  Been there, done that….

Cool building tip tops along the walk….

The way green spaces are being created among the old tracks is pretty neat….

city streets…

I couldn’t resist taking a pic of this perch….

A peek of the New Yorker Hotel sign….

A florist along my walk…. I’m off the highline and back at street level now….

Sanrio on 42nd….

Times Square….

I browsed in the Disney Store and looked for a baby gift….

Spring topiaries….

The Up balloons rising over the castle in the store….

A vinylmation NYC statue….

This is what I ended up picking for the baby gift.  It is a story about Duffy the Disney Bear (who we just met at California Adventure) and how Minnie made Duffy to keep Captain Mickey company while at sea and traveling…. Cute stuff…. and the baby’s big brother will enjoy the book and plush, too….

It also works for the gift wrap I had already bought….

Naked Cowboy in Times Square…. *rolls eyes*….

I decided to go to Red Lobster for dinner.  I had not been in several years and it sounded good.  I had a yummy salad topped with shrimp before cabbing downtown back to my home away from home for the next four nights….

The hotel was just right…. very comfortable…

I did an end of the day what I wore….

This torquois jewelry is a Guatamala souvenier….

This was a  purchase I made a few weeks ago but wore it for the first time this day… I had a $10 off coupon and the dress was on a deep sale anyway…. I got it for $4! Yay for good deals!

Sore piggies after 12 miles…

Okay…. I’m going to stop there.  Sunday is when I did the most sight seeing.  Mon – Wed I was in class all day but I did take walks on both Mon and Tues evenings.  I’ll share those pics in the next entry.

Happy Friday!

Love the storefront with all the containers of flowers. Also, love your patriotic dress with Jean jacket! Still don’t understand how you can do such walking everywhere in flip flops..they aren’t supportive and have no cushioning. When I was a kid, I wore them but then my feet got sore and I turned to sneakers.

the New Yorker is one of my favorite buildings in the city when you’re in central park!

I love visiting new York

Ah I love NYC so much! You’ve brought back so many happy memories for me – thank you so much for capturing such gorgeous photos of a beautiful city! We stayed in the New Yorker before, and also visited Soho and the Magnolia Bakery, so lots of great memories, thank you! I also work in HR and am in the middle of applying for Chartered Fellow with the Irish branch of CIPD (the main certifying board used in Ireland/UK) – I have my first interview in the morning, so I can completely identify with you x

I enjoyed New York. I been there with my mom one time, and the second time with my husband. Although Larry and I lived in Long Island for a while. I didn’t do that much walking, we did the tour bus thing. Hope you get a chance to do a carriage ride around Central Park.

What did you think of the cupcake? I wasn’t impressed. I guess you earned your activity points eh?

Thanks for taking me on your walking trip of NYC!!

We got a Christmas ornament from that store! A Santa and a taxi. 🙂 We also went and saw the Bodies exhibit in the Seaport area. It’s sad to see it so affected. That little restaurant with the pewter pig? It’s called The Spotted Pig. (I love that I recognize these things!) it’s got fantastic food and killer deviled eggs, of all things. I love thing living through you experience! Ashley
