A poor man’s experiment!
We are so broke this year thanks to the old car dying and the new car needing repairs three times in three months that we have not even been able to buy birthday presents, let alone flowers for the garden. There are 5 birthdays in one month here and everyone was forewarned that they were all getting the same thing…nothing! LOL! Luckily they all understand:)
In fact we just found a message from Alysia (who got a homemade cinnamon swirl bread for her present) to Steven wishing him a happy birthday and wondering what kind of cake he got! That made me laugh…we are such an adaptable family, don’t you think?
So, as I said, we can’t afford flowers for the garden either. Last year I got smart though and only bought perrenials and about half (or maybe a little less) came back this year. We could afford the 20 cent packs of seeds from Walmart for vegetables so we picked up a couple of dollars’ worth. We have a nice garden on the side of the house that has great soil in it but in the last 9 summers nothing has ever really grown in it. Either it just doesn’t take or the stuff rots before it’s mature.
I don’t get it, and I lost interest in vegetable gardening years ago because of it. But with all our half empty gardens, Dennis came up with the idea of planting the vegetables in them instead! I’m actually excited to see what comes up now and it makes up for the missing flowers!
Ah, life is good after all! 🙂
hi old friend. Hope the new year brings you all that you want : )
