I’m the Billy Ray of Scrabble!

Yup, that’s me! Remember when Billy Ray Cyrus was on Dancing With The Stars? And he was SO bad but tried SO hard to achieve his only goal… to score just one measly 8 before he was voted off.  Despite all of it, he left with nothing higher than a 7 but 10’s across the board in the fan’s hearts:)

So why am I the Billy Ray of Scrabble you ask. Well, while we were Christmas shopping a couple of weeks ago, we spotted the game. We picked up the $8 version but when we realized we both wanted it and would play it, we opted for the $35 version instead. The version that has little raised sides around each square so all the tiles fit neatly in, and it swivels like a lazy susan, and the tiles are dark…all very elegant in a plastic sort of way. LOL!

We wrapped it up to add to the presents under the tree since it is pathetically empty under there this year with only one kid coming home and we buy very little for each other. However, about a week ago, we couldn’t stand it anymore and it got unwrapped and set up on a table in front of the fireplace with the tree lit and the Christmas music playing and Dennis had even surprised us with a bottle of brandy he found while on his run for our Bailey’s Irish Cream.

It was a wonderful evening playing Scrabble, sipping brandy, feeling the warmth of it and the fire, arguing over words that aren’t words, passing the dictionary back and forth…it was just one of those perfect evenings they always show in the movies actually.

Perfect until Dennis beat me by nearly 100 points! And with words like ‘renoosed’! ExCUUUUSE me?? Oh yes people, it’s a word. It’s what you do after the noose falls off the first time…you have renoosed it. And just to add insult to injury, it uses all the tiles so he gets an extra 50 points on top of landing on not one but TWO triple word scores!! 110 points for one crappy word! What’s with that??

Strangely enough that is a typical game for us. We both thought I would be a little better at it since Dennis’ spelling is shall we say ‘creative’…or maybe ‘phonetic’ is better! LOL! But NOOOOO! He is excelling at coming up with crazy words that give him scores of scores and I’m just trailing behind him every time. Last night was the worst though. He got another huge score right off the bat and won by over 200 points. It’s actually fun though because it aggravates me that he’s won by so much so I aggravate him back by telling him his run is over and he’s mincemeat next time! For some reason, he finds this kinda hilarious!  I won’t give up and we are constantly harassing each other over it even when we’re not playing.

So I am always threatening to beat his butt in the game, but really my one goal here is to lose by less than 30 points! Pathetic? Yeah, so? LOL! Hey, someday I may lose by even less than that, but I gotta start somewhere ya know! There is another game on tonight and I think we may even break out the brandy since it’s the weekend before Christmas. If we do, I will raise a toast to Billy Ray. I have a better shot at making my goal though since no matter how hard he tries, Dennis cannot vote me off! LOL!

Honey, Have you considered buying film for the camera? Of course, playing Scramble is incredibly difficult for me since I have to sit across from you and your stunning beauty is a constant distraction to me. LOL

Dennis, you just lost lots of points by spelling “Scramble”!
