Parallel infinite

It’s amazing how everything still works
The park’s litter-bins are emptied
The automatic doors open
We took the metro down to the docks
Trendy new apartments
Expensive cafés
A small ice-cream vendor
Walked back to the city

There’s a time and place for it I guess
Running around making noise
Not wondering where all the people went
We go into any store we want
Take anything we want
One might think we would want to indulge
But there’s too much to see
When the metro pulls into the station you can’t see the driver
If you wait at the far end of the platform you won’t see one anyway
But it stops
Chimes
And the doors open
There just aren’t any cars on the road
Aside from those parked
So I wonder when this snapshot was taken
Why things are arranged the way they are
We go down to the river and it’s clean
That doesn’t match
The air is cool though so we sit on the grass
A mirror of some youthful activity
And I’ve lost count of how many of these cities I’ve found
