An entry not about Swing, anime or writing…
Goodness – what on earth is happening to the world?
Forget the world, what on earth is happening to my diary?
No Swing-dancing entry for this Thursday just past; for the very first time I skipped a lesson, reason being I had something booked months ago long before I started dancing.
Last night I attended a lecture given by one of my dearest friends on Australia’s humanitarian response to the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. He is an older gentleman of 64 this year, and for two years (2004, 2005) I helped him in the editting and formatting of his Doctorate thesis of the same name. I love both the subject matter and the author, so there was no way I was going to miss the evening. His lecture was fantastic but extremely brief, just over an hour. I guess after reading his thesis a few times, I’m privy to much more information than he was able to share in the hour, but nevertheless what he did speak about was excellent. The lecture-theatre was full of many members of the Melbournian Hungarian community and we all gave him rapturous applause at the conclusion. Afterwards he and I along with his sister and her husband from Perth, WA, who had come for a visit and to attend the lecture, and another friend of ours all went to Lygon St. to have coffee and cake, the perfect conclusion to a fantastic evening.
