Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan | complete

XD
XD x infinity!

Well actually, Dokoro-chan isn’t the funniest anime in the world, but it gets close. Honey & Clover has gags that induce more laughter because of the endearing characters and your attachment to them, but Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokoro-chan is mild ecchi, so it’s pretty much supposed to be totally ridiculous.
For the ones watching at home, the title translates to ‘Clubbed to death angel Dokuro-chan’, Dokuro being the name of said neurotic angel. Basically it’s an anime about a guy who needs to be killed to prevent him messing up the future, also by said angel. The problem is she’s having way too much fun hanging out with him and living in his house, attending his school etc. The larger problem is that she’s overfond of clubbing him to death with her magical bat, a clear parody of the classic mahou-shoujo wand, which she then has to promptly use to bring him back to life changing ‘Pi piro piro piro pipiro pi!!!’ at the top of her lungs.

I think you have to have seen a lot of anime to get into something as clearly silly as this. It’s only 4 eps long, though each one is split in half similar to western childrens cartoons, so all up there are eight segments, two per ep, running 12 minutes each. If you take to this level of silliness, the opening theme itself is one of the funniest elements on its own – totally manic like Dokuro herself.

While some may draw parallels between this and such productions as Love Hina and the Korean film ‘My Sassy Girl’ where the male protagonist always gets the shit kicked out of him by a crazed psychotic female, Dokuro-chan doesn’t attempt to use this as a device to hide an attempt at being sincere. It’s just fun. Seeing Sakura get clubbed in half and his brains rain from the sky is hillarious… no light paper-fan slapping here.

It’s absolutely wacky, fun, and most of the time naughty. Being ecchi that’s aimed at older audiences, all stops are pulled for the generous use of blood when there’s violence, and a good dose of comic nudity and sexual innuendo. It’s still slightly clever though, in that turn your brain off kind of way. I really did enjoy it.

I tried watching that show…. I lasted about 5 minutes… The cuteness and gore just didn’t jive with me….
