mulholland dr.
i waited far too long to watch this. perhaps it was just the right time.
i am amazed though, especially as i no longer find much enjoyment from much live-action and/or american material.
the soundtrack will be purchased on next week’s account.

A bit of a better Holy Shit moment. Of-course the statement about live-action would turn around eventually. Eventually all things become stale as we turn to other things, then a rejuvenating cycle begins again. As much as I don’t watch anime as heavily these days, it’s still massively encouraging to see the likes of Lucky Star and Aria, as two very good, very different examples of modern anime.
As for Mulholland Dr. though, like Haibane Renmei, it has become one of the most influential works I’ve ever experienced. Atmospherically it’s amazing, visually it’s beautiful, and the pacing and story are absolutely perfect. One of the earliest immediate 10 scores that didn’t require a re-watch and reflection before confirmation of the perfect score.
My friend thought that mulholland drive was the best thing since sliced bread and thus, set me up for disappointment
