silver silver
at present i am surrounded by such good music, it makes me feel as it often does that i wish to contribute nothing more to the universe which is recorded sound.
yoko kanno – cowboy bebop, ghost in the shell: stand alone complex.
miles davis – everything.
final fantasy x soundtrack, especially the closing theme and end titles.
planet funk – genius in programming/sampling and engineering both.
u2 – achtung baby – still what i would call the best mixed and engineered album of all time.
peter gabriel – up – this man is always brilliant.
and if i had peter gabriel’s real world studio, i probably spend the first two days just walking around appreciating everything. especially studio 3, the self contained house.
i don’t want gear anymore, nor do i want client work. at present i want to work in editing/post production. dealing with clients can be good, mediocre most of the times, and when it’s bad, it really feels bad. i don’t want gear at home because i wouldn’t use it, more to the point, i wouldn’t use it to make money – and while the gear i want for my home isn’t exactly a neve desk and a focusrite blue collection, it isn’t exactly cheap either. i’d have to have a tdm system – and to justify spending that much money on a home system i’d want to be making money off what i’m doing. in future, if i have the money and i need to purchase gear to work on projects that i’m getting paid for, then yes, i will buy what i need.
the rest will be spent on books, cds and games, the way it should be.
and i am still hunting for a talisman box that i don’t have to bid aus$100 or more for on ebay.
