Wordy bits long….

I am currently at work doing this and don’t have my travel paper diary with me, so I may have to come back and do some editing once I get home. I am working till 6:30 tonight (a bit of a shock doing a 10 and a half hour day on my second day back from holidays, but you get that!)

Ok back tracking about 2 weeks ago…..

On the Saturday we got to the airport and discovered that I had left my address book (with everyones addresses for post cards etc in it) and Sal had left his mobile at home. So a mad call to my sister ensured that we got on the plane with both these items in our hand luggage.

(I am drinking a hot chocolate atm and it is really yummy!!!)

Zac was so excited about the flight as it was his first time in an aeroplane. He was just about jumping out of his skin by the time the plane started moving for take off. His excitement was contagious and the look of wonder on his face when he looked out the window and saw everything getting smaller and then saw the clouds and then saw us high above the clouds…. yeah it was wonderful! Sal missed all of this as they put him in an emergency row so he has some leg room  (6ft 5”+ of man does not fold up well into normal aeroplane seats!) But as luck would have it he also missed out on the “I’m bored” 2 hours into the flight!

About this time they took Zac down the back to have his face painted  (against my better judgement!) and he came back sporting a tiger face and having wooed all the hostess’s on the flight…including the male ones!! Unfortunately though it meant that Sal’s Aunt who we had only met once before was greeted by a very hyper tiger cub when she came to pick us up at Tullamarine Airport. I was a bit concerned as well as it meant at 10pm at night I had to find something in our luggage to wash his face so that he didn’t get fried up face paint all over the fresh sheets and pillows in the bed.

Jill, Sal’s Aunt, was fantastic and had put us in a different room to Zac, but for some reason he got the queen size bed upstairs while Sal and I got the double mattress on the floor down stairs. We stayed with them for 2 nights before going on to Hastings and they were probably 2 of the worst nights sleep we had on the trip, well for me anyway, Sal may beg to differ.

So we arrived late Saturday night and Sunday morning Jill took me shopping to get some last minute bits and pieces from the shopping centre and shouted me a coffee and showed me around a bit. It was really nice and I love the fact that shopping centres there are open 24/7 unlike here. I didn’t realise how backwater we were over in the west!

Sunday after a great family lunch we went into Dandenong to pick up the hire car we were going to use to go down to Hastings to see Lil and Pixie. It was a beautiful drive down there and I really fell in love with the countryside around Mornington Peninsula. I could of happily have spent my 2 weeks exploring the countryside there and the wineries and restaurants.

We arrived a little after 10am and Lil whisked us off to Arthur’s seat and Arthur’s Maze where we had a fantastic time. We followed that with lunch at Arthur’s seat restaurant overlooking the bay. The weather cleared a little and we could see clear across to Melbourne. It was fantastic, especially enjoyed the lunch and the bottle of wine we shared. It was so wonderful to have that time with Lil and Sarah who was also over visiting.

The next day we went to Mornington and had a wander around the shops and another wonderful drive through the countryside. All too soon it was time to leave and we had to drive back to Dandenong to return the car and catch a train to Melbourne to get our flight to Sydney. We caught the train from Dandenong to Central where we had a brief glimpse of Melbourne city centre as we walked to the airbus to catch it to the airport. The trams fascinated Zac!

All too soon our brief stay in Victoria was over and we were on the one-hour flight to Sydney…

Ok I should really get some work done with Stock take around the corner so will write about Sydney in a separate entry later in the day or tonight J

Just another little piece of me…..

Sal is just one inch taller than me, that’s freaky. I’m glad Zac enjoyed the take off, the take off was a thrill to me as well.

sounds like a wonderful time, ‘cept the sleeping arrangements. i’ll bet sal’s height didn’t do well there either.
