Parent/Teacher Meeting
Tonight we had parent/teacher meetings up at the school. Sal managed to knock off work early so he could come and hear what Master 6s teacher had to say.
It would seem we have a rather bright child on our hands and academically we are going to look into the Jets programme, which is an extension programme for kids that are academically advanced. Master 6s teacher isnt sure if it is offered to kids as young as Master 6 but she is going o find out as she feels he could really benefit from this. As the work gets more challenging his behavior improves but as of yet they havent discovered a level where he finds the work to difficult. He isnt a genious by any stretch of the imagination, but he is probably what they would call gifted.
This doesnt really surprise me as I was labeled as a “gifted” child academically through out school. It wasnt until puberty hit and I lost interest in academics that my grads slipped from straight As to passing Cs. But the Cs involved no effort where other kids really had to study. Upper school was a bit of a shock for me as was University.
University was probably the biggest shock as I found other people who were what I considered accademically far superior to me. At the age of 18 this was a bit of a blow to the ego. But I always excelled onstage which made me feel good.
So now Master 6 is following my foot steps so it would seem, plus despite what my mother would say, Master 6s father was an intelligent man, he just had the smarts in different ways, was my mother couldnt understand or comprehend.
I think this is where Master 6s ability with Maths comes in. He is very strong in both Maths and languages, where my skills were much more languages orientated. His father was definitely more scientifically minded than I was and it seems our son has both abilities. Apparently this is quite rare as we tend to either have a strong grasp in either one or the other. Maybe as he progresses through school one skill will outshine the other.
And here endeth my proud mummy spiel *grins*
Just another little piece of me…..
ryn: I was thinking about that the other day, how it’s winter over there now. I’m so glad that it’s finally warmed up around here.

That is such good news though not really suprising.. I remember you saying ages ago that you thought the reason for his ‘bad’ behavior was because his mind wasnt being stimulated enough in school. Its wonderful that he’s going to be in a position where he can really branch out >:)

Ive always been confused about that right/left side dominant brain thing.. I was good at art, but average at english.. Good at Science but sucked at Maths.. though I think that had more to do with being bored in class and not caring.. I was one of those kids that could get great grades if it was something I was interested in, everything else was irrelevant. Sadly I dont think much has changed >:P

Both of the older boys excel in school, as did I. They definitely did NOT get that from their father. With the youngest, we still have another year before school. He’s already too smart for his own britches, though!
