The Tattoo

♥ The tattoo thing is a long story. I’m not sure I posted here about it, so I’ll fill you in now.

Originally I wanted something on my wrist and I had found the perfect thing- a line of three elephants holding each others tails. I loved it! I was super excited and Erin and I made an appointment at the tattoo shop for a consultation- which you have to have if you’ve never been to this place before.  We went in at the beginning of February and she explained what she wanted and it was all fine. When I showed the picture of what I wanted and explained what I was thinking, the tattoo artist shot me down quick and told me it wasn’t going to work because the design wouldn’t look good shrunk down that much and it would end up looking like a big blob. Obviously, I don’t want a big blob on my wrist, so I was left standing there with no idea what to do and no suggestions from the artist. I made a snap decision to get only one of the elephants on my wrist and he said that would work ok. We left and I immediately started regretting making such a quick change without thinking about it. We had made the original appointment for March 3rd. This was my original image:

Obviously I only wanted the elephants.

So by the time I got home that day, I had changed my mind completely and I emailed them to tell them I had second thoughts and I wanted to change my design. I had picked out something else instead:

… but I wanted it to face the other direction and not have the bunny on the trunk. They told me it wouldn’t be a problem and I felt much better.

But then I started thinking about the date we had booked to get it done- March 3rd. The same day my cousin’s wedding reception was. The more I thought about it, the less I thought it was a good idea that I get a tattoo that morning and then show up at the reception all dressed up with a fresh bandage on my wrist. We decided to change the date, so another email was sent asking for another appointment. They switched us to March 24th.

Then I started thinking about the location of the tattoo and how my mother was sooooo not impressed. Not that I would let her influence the decision, but I too was thinking it wasn’t a good idea to get the elephant there. I have wanted a wrist tattoo for AGES, but I never wanted anything super big and obvious. So, I changed my mind again and decided to get the elephant on my upper back, just under my neck.

I’m hoping that if there’s time, he’ll do a small star on my wrist, like this:

of course, my mind is forever racing and I can’t decide between that or this:

which is beautiful.

Anyway… I won’t know what exactly I’m getting until that day, so I’ll keep you posted.

Random Noter…I love both your tattoo designs. I’d go with the star design on the bottom though. It’s beautiful and very understated.

Meg, you are obviously not ready to do this yet. It is a big decision, and your artists know that. That is why they make you have a consultation first. Just relax and stop sending emails all the time. The right design will come to you… Besides, if you give a GOOD artist the CONCEPT you want, they will be able to design something way better that you will never see on anyone else.

Love the idea!
