Interview- answers
Dear Diary;
Okay, so I sat down today and went over your questions (good ones, btw) and also found more practice questions online that I thought were good. Here are some of my answers.
What is your greatest weakness?
A weakness that I’ve had is delegation. I take it upon myself to do many small projects throughout my shift that could have been done by others- and once I realized that I was doing more work than my co-workers and not achieving better results, I re-evaluated what I was doing and quickly realized that if I assigned small tasks to others instead of saying that everything was taken care of and doing it myself- I could actually accomplish much more and do it much more efficiently.
Tell me about a time you were had to take care of someone having a physical issue, like a serious allergic reaction, or a sport injury. What happened, what did you do, and what did you do wrong?
I was a live-in caregiver for a short period of time and the woman I was taking care of had jumped out of bed in the middle of the night and had fallen and hit her head against a chair that was nearby. She was quite a frail, older woman and she was complaining of pain in her back while her head was bleeding profusely. I ended up calling an ambulance because of her head wound and I had her move positions from where she was on the floor. I probably should have not moved her from the position she was in because of her back injury- but in the end it worked out okay and her back wasn’t an issue.
What makes you qualified for this job?
I believe I have a combination of qualities that would make me successful in this job. First, I have a strong interest, backed by solid, well-rounded education in Developmental Services. In addition, I have a love of learning and problem solving and I have the ability to work hard. finally, I have the determination to succeed.
How would you evaluate your ability to deal with conflict?
I believe I am quite good at handling conflict. I make many unpopular decisions at times -often the person in conflict with me would be upset and sometimes physically outraged. I would always make sure that I fully explained the situation, the policies behind my decision, and why those policies exist. Usually by the end of the conversation, the person could see the other side of the situation and things were resolved.
How would you describe yourself in terms of your ability to work as a member of a team?
I’ve learned a great deal about teamwork in my past employment. Not only does each person have to work together as a part of a team, but each person individulally must be working towards a common goal. As a team member, I like to ensure that each person has an equal opportunity to contribute, and I maintain good communication with all group members.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Although it’s hard to predict the future, I sincerely believe that I will become a great residential counsellor. I believe that my abilities will allow me to excell to the point where I can take the next step and gain a higher position. Ulitmately, my goal always has been- and always will be- to be the best that I can be at whatever I am working on.
Those are some of my answers. I’m trying to copy and paste from Word where I have them written and it’s being a pain so I’m quitting now.
Ignore the spelling, I tried to type a few things out fast and missed some letters. lol.

Great answers! The one about moving the person who fell and hit their head would be a red flag for me as an interviewer. I’m not saying lie about it, but it would make me pause. I like that you followed it up with stating that it probably wasn’t a good idea — shows that you learn from your mistakes, which is always a good thing.
