Vanuatu day 7

Day 7

We decided to make this a kinda rest day…well as restful as we could that is. There was one attraction we had not sent he last time we came to Vanuatu and we had regretted not doing so. This time we would not miss it. The Cascade Waterfalls. We had read about the clear green pools and blue crabs. Sounded pretty damn spectacular!

We had heard that you can catch a van out to the waterfalls and catch one back and therefore not have to pay through the nose for a tour. So that was the plan.

So having started the day with a bit of lie in we wondered off for breakfast. Have I explained the set up at the resort? There is 3 eating area’s, one by the pool (lunchtime bbq’s) one an a la carte restaurant and one a smorgasbord dinning area. So basically all you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.  We loved our breakfasts here, it was such a great start to the day and food to suit both of us. Djd likes his cooked breakie and I like to mix it about with cooked, cereal, fruit and toast. They do a wonderful brekkie here.

After breakie we wobbled our way to the reception area and stuck our thumb out to catch a bus. We had learned from reading on the internet that you have to organize a cost so as we clambered in we said where we were going and set the price. Sweet all set.

Only we had set the price to go there and not back cause we had also read that it was easy enough to catch a bus back, but as we drove out and the driver offered us a price to take us back as well we decided to take it. I must say though you do put a lot of trust in these guys, however we didn’t pay him till be were dropped off at the hotel again. This all added to our adventurous side though cause basically we don’t really like to bargin and haggle…except in Hong Kong and that’s a different story.

We arrive, I go to pay the entry price and AFTER handing over the money for entry the guy then goes into a story of the falls and how it’s the dry season and there basically is no water at the falls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So as walk away chuckling to myself and djd we both decide a walk in “park” will be nice anyway, of course the humidity is getting denser and denser as there apparently seems to be a storm coming in.

Pools at the beginning

The jungle feeling was all around us

Sometimes I do question our sanity of doing things, here we are climbing up a hill in humidity levels high enough to make the sweat pour off us in rivers to see a waterfall that apparently has no water!?!?!?

However we did see some interesting views and creatures on our travels. Do you remember me saying how on one of the island the last time we came there were these spider sitting in large webs high in the tree’s but close enough for us to see. You don’t? Well never mind as we found a spider or two here at the waterless waterfalls.

Any one want a snail meal?

From a lookout we could see the town of villa and the island where the underwater post office was and some locals.

We could also see some locals below and a dog that from a distance looked like pepsi!

Then we saw this cute little bug as we descended back down to the taxi.

By the time we got back to the taxi the thought of going into town was no longer in our thoughts, we were hot and sticky and just wanted the coolness of our air conditioned room. Well the bar is about as far as we got as we sat and had a cold drink and watched the man climb the coconut tree’s and fell the coconuts.

And then the sky opened up and it poured with rain.

Turned into a blobby day after that…..

Ok, I came to your defense on DJD’s diary… think I saved ya! 🙂 Now is time to put the check in the mail! 🙂 These are wonderful… the spider, I hate spiders but that is one awesome photo. My favorites, the the last two. What can I say, I love the rain! Take care.

tough place to take photos in all that rain – and sweat. I’d like to spend some time in the jungle, but since you are kind of stuck to the path, it probably is quite hard to get good images of what you might want.

The main thing is getting out for an adventure and taking those lovely photos. The bugs and spiders were very interesting. By the way, I’m looking forward to your lovely photos of the Botanical Gardens…tipped off by djd.

Even thoughthe water wasn’t flowing as it can at cetain times it does look like the adventure into the jungle was well worth it. Fantatic photos of the scenery and the spiders and such.

It’s a pity the spiders don’t show just how big they were !! :O) It was a fun morning despite the heat, and the native vatuatuians we met all with machetes !!!! Glad they were all smiles :O)

What a nice walk. I’m glad the rain waited till you got home before it visited. The photos, as usual, made me want to be there too – well, except for those spiders, I scrolled quickly past those. But the caterpillar was cute!

what and outing! and your timing was impeccable
