I thought for large parts of today that I’ve never wished more for a Priesthood presence in my house.  I’ve been wishing for Father’s Blessing to help calm me this week.  I’m half-tempted to give President Nelson a call, given that he’s still our home teacher.  We’ll see how the rest of the week goes before I make that decision.

I’m feeling like I’m drifting again, but at the same time I’m trying to remember that the Gospel is my anchor.  And as I told my mom last night, I’m definitely feeling like I’m stuck in neutral.  Law school is a way to get out of neutral.  I’m not sure just finding another job will get me out of neutral.  But law school is a definite way to get out of neutral.

Let’s see…in other news, the weather guys are watching a potential winter storm for Thursday/Friday.  It’s too early to know if it’ll hit here, but they know at this point that whatever precip we get will be all snow in this part of southern Wisconsin.  Mostly they’re just not sure if the system will come far enough north to nail us.  But it’s definitely the type of storm that could nail us (there are generally two types of snow systems that hit us – the Oklahoma Hook and the Alberta Clipper.  We get lots of snow from the hooks and not much from the clippers.  The Alberta Clipper essentially drops down out of Canada and skirts through the northern half of the country and will give us two or three inches of very fluffy snow.  Oklahoma hooks, on the other hand, come up from the Oklahoma area and generally tap into moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.  It’s those that can dump 8+ inches of snow in a single storm.  The question with hook storms is how far north they end up – right now we’re on the northern edge of this one, but that can easily change.  The other thing with hook storms is that the band of heaviest snow is usually fairly narrow – but not always).  A hook storm this time of year doesn’t cause as many problems as one does in January-March because our ground isn’t frozen yet – so a lot of the initial snowfall melts on the roadways – it’ll still build up on cars and grassy areas, but it doesn’t cause as big a problem on the roadways.  But of course, 8 inches of snow is going to cause some headaches whether the ground’s frozen or not.  So at this point, it’s a watch and wait scenario.  The good thing is that my dad’s not set to come home until Friday, so even if we do get snow on Thursday/Thursday night, it shouldn’t screw up him getting home.   Right now the National Weather Service has a Special Weather Statement out warning of the snowfall potential. They’re usually pretty good about warning people well ahead of time for the first accumulating snowfall of the season, and thereafter when we’re getting a winter storm.  This one could qualify as just an inch or two or a winter storm – all depends on the storm track.  Either way, winter’s coming, as whatever snow we get will stick with our high temps only in the 20’s on Friday and into the weekend.
