SCORE! *good news*

So I have this class on Great Speeches and Speakers.  The exam sucked (I’m sure I mentioned it earlier), but I managed a 75 on it (it’s only 15% of our grade).  We also had a two page paper we turned in that was worth…5% of our grade I think and I got an 85 on it.  Some time ago, I mentioned I had to observe a speech and write on it.  Well, that paper was worth 20% of our grade.  We got it back this afternoon in discussion 😛  I got an 88 on it!  🙂  By comparison, the highest grade I’ve ever gotten on a college paper was an 89, and that was in my American Presidency class a few semesters ago now.  Apparently on this paper, I wrote a very good thesis statement…so I guess all the lessons on writing thesis statements have sunk in.  Now if only I could remember how I managed to write such a good thesis statement!  As I’m determined to do even better on this last paper (the biggest single assignment of the semester – worth 25%), it may just be my highest yet.  And it’s interesting as well.  We have to pick a speech to analyze and this time it’s one we have to have the text for.  I picked Lincoln’s "A House Divided" speech (a great speech if you’ve never read it).  The key to writing good rhetorical criticism papers is picking a speech that can find something interesting in and Lincoln’s speech has lots of interesting things in it.  So that’s my good news 😛
