Am I writin’ it?

"Nobody will join your club," said teacher A.  "Our students hate writing, especially English writing."

"You’re lucky if you can even get six students to join," teacher B chimed in.

"You may have to bribe them or lure them with chocolate," remarked teacher C.

It’s hard not to worry about the prospects of my proposed creative writing club, what with all that cold water thrown at me.  School policy says that if I get fewer than six applicants then I’ll have to abort my baby.  So, in order to carry my baby to term without resorting to unorthodox medication, I decided to start with the name.  Yes, I believe that the name of the baby is crucial to what it grows up to be.  It’s the name that counts.  (Gee I really feel like I’m giving birth to a human baby…)

Anyway the naming process was unbelievably painful…

Creative Writing Club (No way.  A club that encourages creative writing can’t have that utterly uncreative name.)

Free Writing Club (Of course writing is free.  And, still too uncreative.)

Writers’ Club (Can it get any more boring?!)

Young Writers’ Creativity Association (Yup, it’s YWCA in short.  Sort of creative, but very irrelevant.)

All-you-can-write Club (Right, I was thinking about food.  All-you-can-eat buffet, yum.  But sounds kind of stupid though.)

Write Club ³Õ¼g·| (Inspired by the movie ‘Fight Club ·iÀ»·|’.  I even had a little slogan to go with it: "Write Club Write Club, join the right club!" and "³Õ¼g³Õ¼g¡A·i©RËݼg".  This name almost made it.  But I decided that not too many students would get my pun, so I dropped it.)

I couldn’t pick a name.  I was starting to panic.

Mr L, the teacher in charge of all the club affairs, had urged me several times to give him a name as soon as possible.  On the day of the deadline, he stood behind me, with his hand on my shoulder, his face menacing, his words threatening ("Don’t make this difficult for me"), and asked me for a name immediately.  In my haste, I wrote him this:

I’m writin’ it

And believe it or not, this name stuck.  There’s no "Club" or "Association".  Just the phrase "I’m writin’ it".

I know, I know, it isn’t such a great name after all.  But what the heck, I’m lovin’ it.

Today is Clubs Recruitment Day.  Students tick their names against the clubs that they want to join.  The counts will be finalized tomorrow.  So, my club’s future depends on today, and tomorrow.

I hope I don’t get a miscarriage.

Hey! I had a pretty good laugh reading your titles in progress! 😀 I like ‘YWCA’ and ‘Write Club’! But i think ‘i’m writin’ it’ is a great choice too cos students will be able to recognize it (from McDonald’s) right away, and that’ll at least trigger their initial attention. 🙂 I’m sure more than 6 students will tick to join your Club, waiting to hear your good news! 🙂

In this world, once u have a terrific project u want to realize, people will always sneer at u and thrown a bucket of cold water over your head and walk away with evil laughs… that’s almost the rule, why’s that?? I’d say ignore them ignorant, uncreative, banal, conventional, narrow-minded people who can’t make it themsevles so they dun want u to make it either. But YOU WILL!!! 🙂

i loved “dead poem society”. i organized a club named this when in secondary school. um…before writing, maybe it’s a good idea to watch some good movies like dead poem society together to facilitate the writing. hey..how to improve written English? suggest me some method, pleasssssssssse. thx!

Well, it depends. If you want to attract more students, the best name should be ‘A1 writing club’, or something similar with those English tuition schools that reminds students can get good score in open exam if they join your club.
