A short trip into Faux News…

OMFG!!! I just watched a snippet of Fox News…specifically “The O’Reilly Factor” and they just had Adam Corolla on there to discuss his views on why we need to get rid of welfare. This fool compared people on welfare to astronauts…saying that people on welfare begin to atrophy, like the astronauts on the space station…their muscles atrophy. Corolla also said “Really…how many people would go hungry if we did away with the welfare system…there are 50 million people on welfare and what…5..13..would go hungry if there wasn’t welfare?” He said they would turn to their neighbors, family, etc. for help. WHAT AN IDIOT!!! Just because Corolla has fame on his side and probably rakes in millions every year does not mean he represents the average american who works a low-wage job. And by low-wage, I don’t mean only minimum wage jobs. I currently work at a job where I make a little over $9/hr. At that wage I made just over $16,000 this year…GROSS. That’s before taxes. It’s not a lot to live on, really, nowadays. My NET paychecks are spread thin. It takes my whole first check each month just to pay my rent alone. So I have to make the one I get before that last for 2 weeks…for gas, food, car maintainance(which since I drive an 18 year old car are becoming more and more frequent. Just last week I had to fork over $183 for a broken belt tensioner. That little issue almost toasted my engine, as the car overheated and I had no choice but to drive it anyway or risk losing my job for not being there to open the store on time. I did make an effort to call someone else to open the store, but I couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone. Hey…our store only has 4 employees…and one of those is a cashier with no keys to the store or combination to the safe, nor numbers that will allow her to unlock the register…a second employee lives a distance from the store…she wouldn’t have made it in time to open on time if I had tried calling her. The last employee lives just around the corner, but didn’t answer the phone. That’s the reality of many jobs. Get there on time or be fired.)
I do not get food stamps…but I have tried. I was told I make too much to qualify. How, I have no idea. I work…I don’t just sit at home on my ass and “atrophy” as Mr. Corolla would have one think. I have several friends who DO get food stamps…and DO work. They just are in lower wage jobs that don’t pay enough to feed their families and pay the bills. Does Mr. Corolla not realize that a holy hell-ton of the jobs we had (PAST TENSE) here in this country have up and left??? They went to countries that pay slave wages! There may be 50 million people on welfare here…but not all of them stay at home. Many of them already work…and many of them would love better paying jobs. So if Mr. Corolla wants to put his money where his pie-hole is…he should figure out how to come up with 50 million jobs for those folks…so they don’t “atrophy”. If you’re not a part of the solution…then you’re a part of the problem…and if you are going to be preaching that people need to get a job…then you damn well better make sure there are ones that are available RIGHT NOW for the people who, according to you, need them. They can’t be jobs that are specialized…that require years of training….that are going to cost a fortune to learn how to do. College training isn’t the answer. There are so many fields that don’t have enough jobs for the graduates that are out there. We need jobs for ALL levels of people if you are going to eliminate welfare. It’s the only other option. If the jobs aren’t there, how are these people SUPPOSED to make money??? It just doesn’t make sense.
Stupid, stupid Adam Corolla. (And by the way…Jimmy Kimmel just lost a few brownie points from me for ever associating himself with the likes of you!)
