Brave squirrel
Noters Beware!! This is a “mean-note” free diary.
So I was outside with Rooby-dog this morning…when this crazy little squirrel decided he wanted to get from the tree in my yard to my bird feeder. I had just put sunflower seeds and corn in the feeder…which explains his wanting to get to the feeder. This little guy was pretty persistent, but finally had to give up. Rooby wasn’t backing down.
Look at how close he got to Rooby!!!
This is Rooby’s mad face. The squirrel jumped from the tree to my neighbor’s roof and ran away. Rooby was not pleased.
“I know he’s up there SOMEWHERE!!!”
“Please…come back!!!” This is my favorite pic from this whole set. I just love Rooby’s ears as his head is tilted up…looking for that squirrel to come back.
Cute. I had a ‘repeat offender’ squirrel at my old house that would come down and bark at my dog. It was hours of fun.

The squirrels at my parent’s place were utterly fearless. With one of our dogs (not a very bright dog), they’d run along the ground in front of her, letting her gradually catch up as they headed for a tree. At the last moment before the tree, they’d do a 90 degree turn away from the tree and…Boom! The dog would hit the tree head on and the squirrel would escape. This happened several times thatI saw. Another time, same dog “treed” a squirrel on the phone pole. She sat at teh bottom of the pole and barked and barked. The squirrel did a tightrope walk across the phone line and escaped, but somehow the dog didn’t see the escape; she was confident that she had the squirrel trapped, and refused to give up. I finally had to drag her into the house, because she wasn’t going to give up. I think the squirrels mocked her on purpose.

Rooby is 15? That’s really old for a dog. I don’t think any of the dogs I had lived past 14. That’s very close to being a centenarian in human years.

Oh, I just love Rooby’s face, even the mad face, which doesn’t really look very mad at all. 🙂 And your squirrel . . . what a beautiful colour! Out here, all of our squirrels are either solid black or sometimes variations of grey . . . nothing like that lovely reddy brown of your gutsy little guy. Wonderful pictures!
