The Book Shelf from Hell

Bought one of those easy to put together bookshelves from the container store.

Buying a bookshelf from a container store should send up all kids of red flags when we are purchasing the darn shelves but hey that is another story.

The bookshelf was very heavy. The guy at the store just wheeled it out on the dolly and hoisted it up and placed it in the back of my Bravada.

Once I got the bookshelf home it was not as easy to get it out of the Bravada and onto another dolly, well a sort of dolly.

Pulled just about every thing I have in this old body to get the bookshelf out of the Bravada and onto the make shift dolly.

Never seem to have the right equipment to get the job done in a timely manner.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have the right tools to get the job done quickly instead of having to buy tool after tool after tool and then still not getting the job done the way you think it should be done.

Got the bookshelf to the room I want it in and then discovered I did not have enough room in that room to take all the pieces out of the box and then put them together. Move it all out in the hallway and then put the bookshelf together.

Having a diagram with works always works for me. Took my time and put the bookshelf together in almost no time at all. Once the bookshelf was together I noticed I had three sections of fake wood I did not use along with lots of extra nuts, bolts and other such hardware. I just hate to have anything left over and hate not having enough of what I need in order to put something together.

Life is just so funny when it comes to building something. Build it just like the instructions say to build it and you have parts left over or not enough parts!

Once the bookshelf was together I put the little carpet protectors/sliders under each corner of the shelf and then pushed it easily down the hallway to the room.

The bookshelf slid right into the small space I had cleared for it and looked GREAT. I am no dummy and knew this entire project was too easy and was waiting for the something somet hing to show up. Yep, I am never all that great at building and always have something-go wrong when I put something together. Nothing happened and the bookshelf looked great.

Stood back and looked, it still looked great and it still fit the space!

Wow, managed to get something right today.

Hope all of you had a good bookshelf day-to-day just as I have…smiling.

My boyfriend here has put together a bookshelf, two large dressers and a night table, with no ill effects. We love them. We even have a Sauder TV stand, that’s better than the cheap one in the living room. IKEA, I presume? Also, I put together three lamps, myself, as well.

yabut if you hear a loud crash in the night…….

Oh, dear. Extra pieces of wood, nuts and bolts is not a good thing. I would be afraid…very afraid. *smile*

hoping all we keep hearing is how good it looks.

well… at least you’ll know what that CRASH BANG THUD CHUNK is at two this morning… heh-heh.

extra bits is how you know you got it right. Its the pixies way of messing with your head. Now if you are me you keep all those extra bits in case they happened to be important and reread the instructions 50 times to see if it wasn;t the pixies at all but instead my own creative genius in building. When I bought a drill my friends were scared.

You gotta love those instruction sheets. Wonderful you got your bookcase together.

When we got married,we bought one of those “put together bookshelves”and after twenty five years we still have it! LOL.It is in a spare room now,but still looks fine, and still holding them books!

Psssst…did your new book case fall on you and Ann? Just. Kidding. *smile* Thanks for the sweet notes.

Nope, the book case once assembled is just fine, it was just getting it together that was a problem. Once in place it has not moved and should not be a problem again. Smiling

Actually, the guys name is Hal Werntz. Ever know him? I believe he was from Penn and should be about 57 now. Did you know him? (The Written Voice)

Nope, wrong Guy, then again he could be the right guy, but we shadows never give out exact information in the clear….smiling. So memories of Fort Ord Guy…

Ha! I started laughing as soon as I read the first line – I’ve had lots of experiences with do it yourself furniture, so I knew what was coming! Thanks for the laugh!
