NoJoMo – 3 Foliage

I was driving home today, after an unusually exhausting day at the office. Don’t get me wrong—most of my days are exhausting… but today was just a bit more exhausting than most. The day flew by. Anyway… on the way home, I noticed the changing foliage. Now, Virginia has always been a beautiful state in my mind… but Texas, specifically Hill Country, has remained in my mind as “God’s Country”…. I think Hill Country may have to take a back seat. On the way home today, I wanted to cry. The beautiful shade of amber and crimson and burnt orange shimmering together in the breeze… I just could barely hold back my emotions. I have never really seen the changing of the leaves for myself. It’s absolutely breathtaking. And God Almighty, it sneaks up on you! On day, you’re just driving along bitching about how much your teeth hurt; the next minute, WHAM! You get knock on your butt by this cosmic dose of zen flavored scenery.  Who knew?

My teeth do still hurt. Of course. I thought they might be getting better… alas, the bones still ache an incredible amount. I’m going to demand antibiotics tomorrow at my appointment—which is at 3:30. By that time in the day I should be sufficiently cranky enough to demand from a doctor. You see, it’s election – in case you’ve been under a rock – and in Virginia, the polls open at 6am. People are predicting record lines, so Grant and I are leaving at 5am to stand in line to vote! I told my boss I might be late to work. If I have to stand in line all day I will. This very well could be one of the most important elections of my life time, for the simple fact that a black man has made it to the ballot. 50 years ago we were hanging “them” in trees without reason. Now, a black man could be president of the United States. That just astounds me.
If someone were to ask me if I thought we were ready for a black president, I think my answer would be “no”. We still have hate crimes. We are still a very racially divided nation. However, I think Obama is more than just a “black man”… he’s a man who just happens to be black. He’s become more a movement, move of a beacon of hope and change, than a man… So, while I am not certain our country would be ready for just any black man, I do think our country is ready for the “movement” Obama has built.
That said, I realize the man has no experience, is an idealist, a socialist, and probably more than a little naive. I also think that beats evil and corrupt any and every day of the weak. I’m not a democrat or a republican. I’m for voting. I’m for everyone doing what they think is right… and hopefully we come out with the right answer in the end.
Ugh… another smear ad just came on TV. Geez guys… they just couldn’t keep it clean, could they? Gag me. All the negativity makes me really disgusted.

Well, Bagheera jumped up to distract me from the icky-ness and get her some lovin’s. Bagheera thinks all this politic stuff is just silly. She thinks we should draw names from a hat. I’m with you, kid.
