Promotion
I got my first promotion at my current job yesterday. I felt sort of awkward honestly – I don’t know how to act when people are praising and congratulating me! I also am annoyed that I could feel myself blushing basically all day long. I hate that I blush so easily.
But yes, this isn’t supposed to be an entry about the horrors of being promoted and having your salary increased. In fact, I am rather happy about it. I’ve now had a salary increase of $10,000 in the 18 months I’ve worked there, which is obviously quite nice (though to be fair, they can afford to do that because they start you off with a ridiculously low salary for my field). It’s especially nice considering how my first job in the accounting industry went, which wasn’t exactly great for my self-confidence at work (for those keeping score, I was let go at my first job after working there 3 ½ months. Lack of communication skills were cited.)
Among the perks of the promotion is that I can now work from home one day a week. I am looking forward to it since I actually think I will have a lot fewer distractions at home than I do in the office, though we’ll see how that holds up in reality as opposed to hypotheticals. At the very least it will cut out me having to get ready for work, drive to work, drive home to work, drive to eat out, so it should save me a lot of time. And I’m definitely all about that.
Anyway, that’s all that’s really happening with me right now. Going to Vegas in a couple of weeks with the inimitable Heather. Hopefully I don’t develop a gambling addiction in the process.
Did you know it was coming or was it a surprise? Probably getting a little redundant, but congrats! 🙂

i feel like i should make some borderline cynical joke about how if you have continued to see heather after everything, you might already have a gambling addiction… but i can´t think of how to word it. congratulations!!

Maybe you’ll have some time for cooking classes? ^_^

Matt, I was “let go” from my first job after 6 wks for similar reasons. So this entry brings me hope, that one day I will also make at $10k more than I am now. Congratulations, Matt-daddy!!

Congratulations! That’s such great news. Given how your last position ended, I think it’s great that you’re doing so well in your new job. Don’t blow your entire raise in Vegas. Stay away from the craps table. It’s probably my biggest gambling weakness.

Oh… sweet! congratulations!!! 🙂

Working from home sounds pretty awesome. I don’t have any patients at home, unfortunately.

Your pay is not low, Jesus Christ, quit saying that. Also, just uh, pack your lunch and you’ll not have to drive out to eat and that also saves you money. Which you don’t need to do because you’re freakin’ banking. Literally and figuratively. I know this sounds rude. But I’m jealous because you make three times what I make and still think you make measly money. ~I’ll be
