So after my ever inspiring call to action entry almost a month ago I have made absolutely no progression on the job front. Admittedly, as I do more research into the matter I am beginning to accept that it isn’t that I can’t get a job, it’s that no one can get a job, even if they do have a masters degree in accounting and have passed tests to be a certified accountant. Which is nice to know for my ego, but isn’t especially promising when considering future employment.

So, I’m coming onto a dilemma. The college will be asking me in another few weeks whether I want to teach another quarter and I feel like I’d be crazy to tell them no when I don’t even have a potential job lined up, so I’ll probably continue teaching for a bit longer, even though I’d promised myself I wouldn’t do it once 2009 passed. My only rationalization for stopping is that it could potentially interfere with job interviews and such but considering I can’t even get any job interviews right now, I don’t know that that is a real issue.

Anyway, this is not supposed to be happening. The reason I got my degree in accounting and even went so far as to get my masters degree in it was so that I could secure a solid job and wouldn’t have to stress about jobs and money for years. Seriously, if I knew I was going to be stuck teaching college for $1500 a month I could have actually gotten a degree in something more entertaining than accounting! Sheesh.

I do really like the teaching, so I’ve thought about taking the necessary steps to become a certified teacher and just teach high school, but the thing is there is hardly any assurance that I could get a job teaching high school any easier than I’m finding one in accounting – if anything

I’d guess that it’d be more difficult. So, I’m sorta out of ideas on where to turn, other than to just keep plugging away and sending resumes and hope that I can eventually actually get an interview so that I have a chance at securing a job.

Of course, there is the alternative that one of you diary readers could decide to support me financially indefinitely, bringing an end to my job search and, also, these whiny entries. Any takers?

If you don’t mind living in a box on a corner in San Francisco for a couple of years before my loans are paid off. . .

Yeah. I worked at Belk before I started college, graduated, and am still semi-happily working at Belk. So, if I HADN’T gone to college, I could have worked 40 hours a week AND not had student loan debt so, uh, what the hell are they teaching to young adults like us? I always knew it was BS. Thank God I have that piece of paper now. ~I’ll be

I’d love to support you financially, you read Murakami which makes you an instant winner in my book. Also, you could balance my books for me and manage my money, because I can’t.

High school means dealing with teenagers. Sometimes teenagers who don’t want to be there.

Your first note made me laugh. Well, I’m trying to do the teaching certification because I need some sort of stable job, even if it’s not what I went to school for or has been my job. Even as a writer I’d still need a full time job. So, maybe you could do that as a backup plan while you continue applying for jobs. I’d stay at the college for now, though while you continue applying.
