One Month Vacation!
So, I got terminated from my job today. Bad karma from all the gushing I did about it, I figure. I’m trying to look at it as a one-month paid vacation (they’re paying me through October!), but I doubt I’ll be able to find a job by November 1st. It’s not dire or anything, though I’d like to find something by January 1st anyway.
I wasn’t given much of any explanation, though I have repeatedly been told that my communication skills need to improve, that I don’t interact well with the clients, etc. Which is all true enough, though I’d say that lack of communication skills isn’t the right word for my problem – interpersonal skills is more the issue. I was actually surprisingly shaken by the whole thing, as I certainly wasn’t expecting to be fired. I caught my voice wavering when I was telling a couple of my co-workers bye, which was pretty embarrassing (thankfully I won’t see any of them again!). It was rather the surreal experience to go from doing my daily duties to being unemployed in a matter of seconds. I definitely didn’t see it coming at all, I saw they were cutting back my audit schedule but I thought they were just transferring my duties. I had no suspicions that they might actually fire me.
At any rate, I suddenly have a ton of free time on my hands for a few months while I job hunt, which I would probably relish if it was chosen the situation but I’m not liking it so much given the circumstances. I’ve felt so lazy all day. For some reason I feel guilty for enjoying myself due to being fired, it doesn’t seem quite right. Anyway, anyone have any job search tips?
It’s almost holiday time, all retailers are hiring. Jump on that train!! ~I’ll be

You’d have a job at LEAST through January (inventory!!) and you can always look for a ‘real’ job while you’ve got that one. Plus, you’d gain a ton of interpersonal skills that way because interacting with people happens every five minutes. I think it’d be a good experience. Plus you’d get discounts on shit to buy your folks for Christmas, like candles or something. ~I’ll be

Sorry. Getting fired with no warning sucks. Been there, done that. Good luck with your search. ~I’ll be

I almost cried on my last day at Mcdonald’s even though I hated them all, and they hated me right back. It’s very embarrassing, they were all especialy mean to me that day. I have no job hunting tips as I’m the job hunter EVER I’ve been in this crappy town for almost two months and no one wants to hire me. Good luck! Love, Lidia

Hey Matt… sorry I didn’t answer last night. After a really bad day on Wallstreet, I had a very mentally exhausting day. I was in bed by 7:45pm! I’ve been on AIM a bit more recently. Hopefully I can catch you on there. I’m busily working on my medical school applications in what little free time I have during the week. As for all of this, I’d rather talk to you about it on the phone.

I can’t believe you got fired. Sorry I don’t have anything more substantial to say.

Very harsh. Why did they give you the job if that’s what they thought of you, I mean you had an interview and that didn’t you… sorry, mate, that sucks, try not to take it personally, they’re probably cutting back all over, right? A month’s paid work is wicked, but really sorry. ryn: I didn’t meet anyone on my first job I slept with either! i’m sure I was at least 15… 😛

I’ve never seen someone so gratified at being let go…Perhaps a better job is waiting for you on the horizon, so good luck!

I bet it’s tough when you didn’t see it coming. The job seemed almost too good to be true so chances are they probably are quick to hire/fire often. My teaching job (the k-1-2 class) was like that. Most teachers didn’t last a 3rd of a school year before being fired or quitting. You’ll find something quick I hope. Fingers crossed for you. Check some websites while you write in OD daily now 🙂

I got terminated with no warning and no explanation from my first job, too, Mattpie. It wasn’t a grown-up job like yours, though… It still blew, of course. I’m thinking good thoughts for you. Kisskiss.

Wow, Matty. I totally didn’t expect that. I dunno with the job thing. You’re a bit overqualified for anything that I can get you. Good luck? *hug* and btw, getting fired from any job, even one you weren’t so excited about anyway, always shakes you. It’s just the way it is.

I totally know how you feel. One of the jobs that I really loved “didn’t invite me to return” next Fall due to plain out bullshit that she (the boss) told me which equated to being fired in a nice way. However, I did find out through some investigating that I wasn’t the only one treated in such a manner. What pissed me off is that the Department Head influenced her to get rid of me and tried to “charge” with lacking of skills which wasn’t true in my case. I highly specualte that they “didn’t invite me to return” was because I was showing up the Department Chair with the extra work that I was giving students when I consulted their essays. Bottom line: Karma’s a bitch and your employer is going to catch hell for it. I detest when people fire you at the last minute instead of being upfront with you about it and tell you. They should have told you earlier about their “plans,” yet I am sure that they didn’t because they wanted to use you a little longer until there was someone else they were interested in to replace you. Bastards. Yet, you will find somewhere that is better and will appreciate your talents/skills.

Oh yeah….and to clarify, if you’ve read any of my previous entries, the last job that I had did me in a similar way. In both of these instances, both of my bosses were female. Yet, the previous boss that I had was the actual department chair while the other boss that I talked about in the note before was a coordinator. For some reason, I have this theory that female bosses that I have are somehow intimidated by me. I don’t know if that has to do with my ethnicity and gender or just my gender. This is why it is difficult for me to make quality female friends sometimes. Too much petty backstabbing bullshyt that goes on. I am getting old to get into unnecessary drama. If this little note was a rant, I apologize for it! I am little pissy at the moment, and I guess that it came out through the note!
