Dinner with Rebecca

So, I actually went out with Rebecca properly for the first time last night – she showed me around downtown Athens and paid for dinner and coffee afterwards, though she paid for it in a parental way, not a romantic one. She does have most of the dominance on her side in our relationship: she’s older, taller, the owner of the house, etc. Contributing to her dominance is the fact that I’m such a pathetically small town boy and let her lead me around downtown-Athens in a rather wide-eyed manner. I am getting a little more accustomed to the town as a whole though, slowly.

At any rate, the evening with Rebecca was fine and gave me something to do, though Rebecca has her social mask tied on so tightly that it gets exhausting after a while. One thing I liked about the bar atmosphere that I got accustomed to with Donna is that people speak a lot more bluntly there – or at least they give the pretense of it. Rebecca talks to me more like I’m one of her students than a mate. I have this notion that it’s to do with me, but, honestly, that’s just my own egotism – she seems to treat everyone that way. But, as has been covered in this diary, she is a bit of an odd bird.

She also isn’t apparently the best when it comes to self-evaluation. Now, when I was originally shopping for a place to live and a roommate in Athens, I was ideally looking for someone who lives a relaxed lifestyle and that would gel well with my personality. Rebecca described herself as someone who enjoyed “cooking, reading books, and working in the yard.” She also added that she rarely watches television, and keeps it unplugged most of the time. Sounds like a winner, right? Since I’ve been here, she’s only cooked in the microwave, hasn’t picked up a book, and her “working in the yard” has been comprised of notes asking me to mow the lawn.

Oh, and she watches television every night. Does this not qualify as false advertisement?
