Anonymity

I’ve been thinking a little about writing slightly more personal entries on here and at the same time assuring myself of more anonymity – I’ve taken my profile picture down and also eliminated the geographic information. I realize that the same info and pictures are still in the diary, but I’m more interested in it not showing up on searches than it not being available to random people who happen upon my OD.

I realize for complete security I should probably change my name too, I might eventually, but I’m not sure I can bear writing under some cheesy “College_Guy_333” name or whatever, so, the name will likely change whenever I’m struck with a dose of creativity and come up with one I like. At any rate, suggestions are always welcome. And, no, Consistency is not a creative suggestion.

Moving along, I’ve noticed there’s this constant mantra permeating OD of “Don’t criticize someone’s diary! It’s their diary! They can write whatever they want!” which I suppose is fair enough, but it’s a little bothersome to me. After all, everyone on this site is inherently writing to an audience of some sort (or otherwise their diary would just be private) thus opening themselves up to the opinions of others. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s any reason to overtly attack other diarists (there isn’t), but if you’re so sensitive that you can’t handle someone giving honest comments on your writing, then maybe you shouldn’t have it publicly viewable. Not to mention someone saying “I like this entry, but don’t like that one” is likely a lot more helpful to all the blossoming writers here than the blind “You write beautifully!” notes after every entry, that I’m guilty of leaving a lot myself.

Now, I expect at least 10 notes telling me “You’re absolutely right!”

I very much doubt anyone will happen across your diary… I mean I’ve had a personal diary on here for years and years (almost 5 I think), and no one I know in real life has ever happend upon it. Remember what you told me when I got all paranoid about Justin finding mine? Yes… haha. But, I am interested to read your new, more personal entries. I realize you already have been writing themabout what’s been going on and all, but it will be interesting to read about other things. =)

I’d definitely want to read your more personal entries. Heh, I found you on here by searching for Milledgeville diaries. Anywho…yeah. Who are you trying to hide from, exactly?

I’ve been a closet reader for a minute. I would love to read personal stuff.

It’s scary when somebody in your real life does find your diary. My freshman year of college, a group of girls found my roommates diary and posted it publically in an e-mail to the entire campus. It’s alwyas good to be careful…I don’t blame you.

“You’re absolutely right! But you are! I have so many times gone trough this with other diarists, for instance one that has written a lot about her personal beliefs. I then voice my opinion. Respectfully. She freaks out and rants about “my personal beliefs are no ones business, and do not address them again”. *Sigh* Then don’t write about them in an open, online forum!

*You write beautifully!* *gag*

More like Open Drama-y, am I right? I’ll be rather presumptuous, and say thanks for backing me up. You can throw a hit meter or something on your front page, and then you can see where hits are coming from. Every now and then, I see some from my old hometown before the move, so somebody found me. Good thing I don’t care that much, I guess.

good idea. My ex found my diary not too long ago….I am still completely confused as to how he managed that though considering I didn’t use my real name or anyone’s real name in the entries, I didn’t tell him the site or anything…..scary. Especially when I got called and yelled at for my own private thoughts. blah

I take it it’s not my diary you’ve picked up the uncriticisable vibe from. And I knew you never meant the “writes beautifully” comments, haha. I find OD entries about OD entries ever so slightly pointless.

i agree. 🙂
