Disappearing Act
As is occasionally noted here, my parents live on a “farm” which is only a farm in the sense that they own a bit of livestock and a bit more land, but it certainly is a farm for taxable purposes, so we’ll call it one for our purposes too. Anyway, no farm is complete without a few friendly pets (well, besides the livestock) and that’s something the farm has always had in the form of cats and dogs. Recently, there have been notably fewer cats.
More recently, one of our cats, Tom, simply disappeared. Naturally, this left me saddened, confused, and full of questions. I now turn my query to you readers: Is this normal? Do cats (who for all of their lives hardly leave your garage) sometimes just suddenly disappear?
Granted, the only sensible thought seems to be that a predator attacked him, but (although we do admittedly live a bit in the wilderness) I find it a little discomforting to believe a predator could have attacked Tom within a few feet of my parents’ house, which is as far as he ever strayed. Still, I suppose it’s the only rational answer, other than him simply running away, which isn’t entirely likely either. Of course, there’s no way of ever knowing either, since it’s been a week now, and he’s clearly not exactly going to return and tell his story.
Oh well.
And, no, there was no purpose to this entry, other than my wanting to pout about my cat being gone. Live with it.
Addendum: The cat was 5 years old, so old age isn’t it.
Mat, that really is cute that you miss your cat! I do hope he comes back!

^ love of cats = girl magnet. I always thought of Kira’s diary as something that exaggerated rather than validated. heh.

I’m guessing the cat is quite old. Disappearing is against its nature. Do you smell something funny in the garage?

That’s sad. Hopefully he will just show up one day and you will never know what really happened. I’m sorry your cat disappeared. *hugs*

You know, I seem to always be going through the opposite experience. Cats are always appearing at my house, out of nowhere. Yes, perhaps I’ll wake up tomorrow and see Tom at my door. All the same I’ll keep hoping he’ll turn up, even though it may be hopeless. Oh, and I agree with Michael. Big softy 🙂

my cat wandered off and disappeared about 3 mo. ago. She was old, however. But generally cats wander off to die or … I had a cat when I was younger who found a chicken coop to scare up down the road from me and we didn’t see him for about 4 mo. hope you found him!
