The Mary

Well, before an entry is started on The Mary, perhaps, we should get a few things clear about her. First off, she’s a witch. Of course, I don’t mean this degrading in any way, for she is a self-admitted witch, and I imagine is quite proud of it. She is also not to be a single witch for much longer, as she is to be married in less than two days to a monkey. A monkey and a witch marrying on Halloween. And they say gay marriage is controversial.

Unfortunately, because she is a witch, The Mary has found opposition towards her marriage from some of her soon to be in-laws. Yes, it seems that these in-laws are of the Christian faith, and believe that it is inappropriate to marry witches. Of course, being of the Christian faith, they probably also believe that witches fly on brooms, which they do not, or at least the Mary does not, which I found out in a rather disheartening matter when we met and I had to ride in her car instead. However, this is beside the point. The point is that The Mary is getting married and the groom’s family has been a bit unsupportive at times.

Of course, those of you who have been married (which includes none of you) can imagine that when making a commitment of this sort, one hopes to receive the full support of all. The Mary has not received this support and, being that she claims to hate all Christians anyway, the whole situation has become a large annoyance for her. An annoyance she has vented on oftentimes in her diary. Because of this, inside her diary, I fear that The Mary sometimes comes across as, well, mean. This is entirely misleading. I have had the fortunate experience of meeting The Mary and I can attest that, despite the façade of hatred she often carries, she is, at heart, a nice, intelligent young woman. In fact, more than anything, it is a testament to her that she can hold her pagan beliefs so strongly, despite the incredulity that many others hold towards it. Unlike the vast majority of people, The Mary has searched for meaning in her existence, rather than just accepting whatever someone else tells her to be true. Whether one believes what she has discovered is really the truth is inconsequential, it is what she believes and it should be respected.

Of course, ultimately, it is a sign of low-self esteem to think that everyone has to agree with your beliefs, anyway. If you’re so confident in what you believe in, then there’s really no need in getting incredibly upset when you find someone who believes differently, right? Besides, shouldn’t religion be something that we can all use to strengthen the bond between us, instead of something else to fight over? Don’t we have enough of that already?

So, here’s to The Mary – may she believe whatever she likes.

hail mary

Hmm. Interesting. The discussions I could have about this entry would be too long for a little note, methinks ^_^…But you’re still cool anyway and I would assume The Mary is also, though I’ve never met her… ^_^

I am kick butt.
